“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred in the 1300 block of Trinidad Avenue, Northeast, on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
At approximately 7:58 am, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious male. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from apparent trauma to the head. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner
The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old Michael Vest, of Northeast, DC. (more…)

“The following alerts from MPD show that violent crime is a problem in Adams Morgan, apart from the recent incident on 18th Street where a motorist hit two MPD officers and a DDOT person (every MPD officer I have talked to said the incident was intentional).

“Good morning. The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 200 block of W Street NW. An adult victim has been located with a gunshot wound to the foot and has been transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 202-727-9099. Thank you.”

“There was a huge police presence this evening at 20th and New Hampshire NW around 6pm. I would say at least 5 police cars and 15 officers on bikes, many of whom looked just as confused as I did. Any idea what was going on? Thanks!!”
A witness writes:
“Just witnessed a dramatic scene at N and New Hampshire. Cops came up to a car on all sides with guns drawn and instructed the driver to roll down the windows and get out of the car. They didn’t have him pull over first (I think they were going for the element of surprise) so New Hampshire was at a standstill. (This all happened in the last 20ish minutes.) They had the (middle aged white) guy in handcuffs when I left.”

“Dear PoPville,
Last Friday sometime during the workday somebody climbed in through one of our street level windows on the backside of our house. They went through our entire basement, a room on the main floor, and our living room. The perpetrator stole my roommates laptop, some jewelry, clothes, odd knick-knacks and even tried on one of her bathing suits (taking it out of the amazon box and leaving it inside out).
If anyone saw anything please let us know/ a good reminder to neighbors to lock all their windows!”

Multiple readers had reported that a cyclist had been struck by a car at 14th and Rhode Island Ave, NW earlier this morning but Tom shares that the scene was even uglier than first thought:
“I saw a beating happen at 14th at Rhode Island NW this morning. The driver and the cyclist we having an argument after the driver tried to turn and the cyclist was using the cross walk. The driver got out of his car and they exchanged words. The driver then started beating the cyclist. He hit him about 7-10 time in the face. Right in front of a police officer.”

An adult male sustained an injury that might be a possible gunshot wound, however we have been unable to confirm it and have not located any witnesses as of yet. “We responded to the sounds of gun shots in the 4700 block of 5th Street, NW. During the canvass, officers recovered several spent shell casings, thankfully no one was injured.”
