“At approximately 2150 hours, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 3700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, for the report of gunfire. Once at the location, members discovered multiple cartridge casings, as well as, damage to a building and an automobile. If you have any information in regards to this incident, please contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099.”


A reader reports: “Police investigating gun shot heard on 3200 block of Morrison Street, NW around 8 am today; highly unusual in Chevy Chase DC yet sadly, too common in the city. Have not heard of any injuries. Reports of suspect seen running in alley; captured on home video surveillance; search helicopter seen. Police still on scene.”

UPDATE from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District announce an arrest has been made in an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in the 3200 block of Morrison Street, Northwest.

At approximately 7:08 am, two subjects were involved in a traffic accident at the listed location. After the accident, the driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene on foot. A male suspect who had been operating an uninvolved vehicle, gave chase, brandished a handgun and fired at the driver of the striking vehicle. The driver of the striking vehicle then fled the scene but was apprehended by members of the US Secret Service. No injuries were reported. (more…)

“1D officers and detectives are currently on the scene investigating a Robbery that occurred today at about 2:15 PM where a vehicle was taken in the 500 block of G St SE. The suspect approached the victim and demanded his car keys. The suspect then went to the victim’s vehicle and drove it to the intersection of 5th and G Streets SE where the vehicle’s controls proved too cumbersome and the suspect fled. A significant patrol response with support from our police helicopter and an observant citizen led to the apprehension of the offender. (more…)

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a vehicular homicide resulting from a hit and run that occurred on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in the intersection of 14th and K Street, Northwest.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 12:54 am, the driver of a Acura TLX was traveling north bound, at high rate of speed north, in the 900 block of 14th Street, Northwest. The Acura proceeded through a red traffic light at the intersection of 14th and K Street, Northwest, and collided with a Hyundai Elantra, which was traveling east bound on K Street NW. The Acura pushed the Hyundai north bound through the intersection, where a BMW X5, collided with the driver’s side rear of the Acura. (more…)
