“Upcoming Helicopter Flight Activity in Washington D.C.
The Department of Energy will be conducting low- altitude mapping within the District of Columbia this week October 19-23 and next week until October 28 (weather dependent). They will be utilizing a Bell 412 twin engine helicopter, 150-500 feet above ground level, at various hours and locations throughout the city.” (more…)

Been getting tons of queries about that super low helicopter spotted all over Takoma, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase and elsewhere today. From the NNSA:
“The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) will conduct low-altitude helicopter flights over downtown Washington, D.C. and areas in and around the Nation’s capital beginning on October 19 in preparation for the Presidential Inauguration. Thanks to Sawyer for sending the video (below): “from the 1350 Potomac Ave SE vehicle collision with guard rail outside of Harris Teeter. Police arrived quickly – no person is in the vehicle. Helicopter circling area Vehicle appears to have been stolen. EMS has not arrived – no injuries.”
Alert DC reports as of 7:46am Friday: “DDOT reports the westbound lanes in the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE, between 13th Street and Potomac Avenue have reopened while the 700-900 blocks of 13th Street, SE, between Pennsylvania and Potomac Avenues remain closed until further notice.” (more…)

The always listening Alan Henney reports: “HIGH-SPEED CHASE FROM ANNE ARUNDEL CO into PG and DC. Suspect reportedly had 25kilos of meth wanted by DEA, led police on a chase at 100+ m.p.h. He dumped contraband in Mt. Rainier and has been stopped at 5th St and NY Ave NW-DC. Eagle overhead”

“The District of Columbia has recently witnessed a recent spike in Theft One Stolen Automobile to include vehicles that are running unattended and not locked. This evening members of the 5th District Patrol responded to a report of a Theft One Stolen Automobile in the 30 block of K Street NE. As officers arrived they were informed by the complainant that while delivering groceries they left their vehicle running unattended and not locked. The complainants related that as they exited the vehicle and walked away the vehicle was stolen. Additionally the complainants advised they left their young child in the vehicle. Thankfully, this incident ended with members of the 5th District patrol recovering the young child unharmed. (more…)

Update from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2020, in the 5200 block of Western Avenue, Northwest.
At approximately 7:39 pm, members of the Second District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Some responses: “In addition to the Marine one and decoys, park police starts circling 20 mins before each lift off and touch down.”
“1st Helicopter Squadron out of Andrews in holding patterns waiting for National traffic to clear for transport of minor VIPs.”
“For at least the past 30 min, a single Marine One (Presidential) Helicopter has been circling my neighborhood from about 12th St NW to 7th and M St NW to P. This is definitely not normal! What is going on?”
“Holding pattern. Standard military procedure, just sucks that is was over a residential area. Maybe they wanted to check out the Logan circle/Shaw area today.”
