Update from ABRA:

“ABC-licensed establishments are required to take reasonable steps to ascertain whether a person they sell, serve, or deliver an alcoholic beverage is of legal drinking age. DC law does not prohibit a minor from sitting with an adult person within an establishment.

From Lawyer Andrew Kline: “No law against it, but operator has right to exclude those not of age.”

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday, we were kicked out of a restaurant in Chinatown after the manager prevented us from sitting at the bar, arguing that our 4 months old baby is under the age allowed to drink!! After we agreed to sit in the restaurant side instead, and walked towards the restaurant bar, he said that we cannot sit with a baby in a bar, only at the tables which were 3 feet away. When we argued that it is absurd, he kicked us out. Shame on them.”

[Scene: I’m just finishing up breakfast number two, laughing maniacally as I type.]

So babies in the bar – what do you think about them?

[Full disclosure] Even in jest, no way I’m looking at these comments and I’ll be muting all the @PoPville social media responses too so have fun but you guys are your own! I’ll be back for the dog poop in the bike lane discussion later this afternoon. I’m off to lunch number one.

Oh no. Not looking good. I’ve gotten a few emails that they’ve been dark but keep forgetting to follow up but now Lauren spots a for sale sign in the window. Their last Facebook message was January 9th. Not looking good at all. Almost exactly a year ago a reader raved about a wonderful experience they had at Seasons and Sessions. Seasons and Sessions opened in the former Black Squirrel space back in November of 2018. Stay tuned.

From Ivy and Coney (1537 7th Street, NW):

“Fat Tuesday is coming and once again we’re doing our best to bring a little bit of Hamtramck to DC. Were picking up paczki from Woodmoor Pastry Shop, cooking up a variety of pierogi from scratch and giving it all away for FREE* Forget beads and king cakes – Celebrate Midwest Mardi Gras by stuffing your face with sugar and lard in your favorite sweatpants.

*with purchase of any drink”

Back in December we learned that Howl at the Moon would be taking over the old Ping Pong Dim Sum space in Chinatown. They’ve now posted a liquor license placard that says:

“A dueling piano bar with a live music concept offering a menu of traditional bar food and a full- service bar. Applicant requests to add an Entertainment Endorsement with Dancing and Cover Charge. Total Occupancy Load of 500 with seating for 450.” (more…)

1001 North Capitol Street, NE at K Street

I’m only a week late but better late than never (thanks to all who messaged!) Mark Lee broke the news on his Facebook:

“DC ABC Board approves licensing for gay nightclub Town to re-open at new location in a former church building at the corner of North Capitol and K Streets, rejecting ANC and protest group objections. Board grants extended operating hours (5AM Fri-Sat, 4AM Sun-Thurs) but limits use of outdoor space until 2AM.”

Town Danceboutique closed after 10 years in Shaw in 2018. Updates as 2.0 gets closer to opening.
