“Truxton Inn reopens on Wednesday, July 8th, 2020 after being closed since March 15th. To start, only the patio will be open to guests, and operating hours will be 5pm-9pm Wednesday-Friday and 2pm-8pm Saturday and Sunday. In compliance with DC Health and ABRA, at the minimum: face-coverings are required of guests except when eating and drinking, tables are limited to 6 guests, and at least one food item must be ordered per table. “Jane Jane, a cocktail bar co-owned and operated by friends and Washington, D.C. hospitality veterans Jean Paul (J.P.) Sabatier, Ralph Brabham and Drew Porterfield will open this fall in the mission-driven mixed-use development Liz, located at 1705 14th St NW.
Sabatier, who was recognized as one of Zagat’s “30 under 30,” will helm the bar and oversee the cocktail program. His experience spans many years with front and back of house positions at Rappahannock Oyster Bar, Maydan, Compass Rose, and Knightsbridge Restaurant Group. Brabham and Porterfield are North Carolina natives who together own the popular Shaw restaurants Beau Thai and BKK Cookshop. Brabham, an attorney who has been in the hospitality industry for the last ten years with Porterfield, who is also the gallery director at the Long View Gallery in Shaw will run operations of Jane Jane as co-owners. The three friends were inspired to open Jane Jane after the success of the Southern-inspired pop-up ‘Dot’s Spot,’ which they hosted on the patio of BKK Cookshop in 2017. Their desire to create a place that serves well-crafted classic cocktails, Southern-inspired snacks, with welcoming, inclusive hospitality were the driving factors behind the decision to open Jane Jane. At the end of last month we broke the news that things were not looking good for the Post Pub. The Post’s Tim Carman breathed an ounce of hope but sadly that didn’t work out. This morning the Post Pub writes:
“I am sad to inform our customers and friends that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related factors I am forced to close the Post Pub permanently. There’s simply no other option.
To all of our long time loyal customers, I can only say thank you!! More of you than I can name came in almost every day. You were the biggest part of the Post Pub family. A special thanks to the Washington Post employees who helped us pay a lot of bills over the years!
To my employees: I am sorry it ended so abruptly and that you must now look for employment elsewhere. After 43+ years in the same spot, it is hard for me to say goodbye. I am most proud of the fact that three people worked at the Pub for over 30 years and six people for over 20 years. That tells me it really was more than just a business, it was a family. (more…)
