Thanks to Allison for sending a shot of the roof at Local 16: “They just started tearing it up yesterday”
Local 16’s website still says: “We are temporarily closed for winter “hibernation” and planning to reopen soon. We will post updates here once we decide on opening date.”
Last we heard Local 16 was hoping to reopen in June. I’ve emailed the owner and will update when I hear back.

Thanks to Chris for tagging us in the news from Pitchers DC:
“We will require proof of a covid vaccination until further notice at Pitchers/ALOHO [A League of Her Own] and masks per the Mayor. [Ed. Note: mayor’s order requires masks indoors starting Saturday.] We take guidelines and the health of our patrons and staff very seriously. We will accept a picture or hard copy of your Covid vaccination card. No exceptions, no arguing, no talking to the manager. (more…)

From an email:
“Shelter will expand to 50 drafts, and open bar seating this Friday. As you know, the pandemic dictated a much tighter list when we first opened last September. This Friday, we will officially open at full capacity, as we originally intended. Expect no fewer than 20 low abv (5% and under ABV) brews on tap along with a host of rare and remarkable ales and lagers. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been watching the Tokyo Olympics nonstop at home but want to watch out with a group. Do you know of any bars that show the games with sound?“

“Dear PoPville,
Some fellow new moms and I are looking for recommendations for a Mamas’ Night Out (very much WITHOUT the babies!) Someplace that ideally has a decent amount of space, indoors and out, and obviously tasty cocktails and bites? We aren’t 100% sure how many of the moms are actually going to be able to make it (likely around 5 people maybe?) so someplace that you don’t necessarily need a reservation on a Friday night to be able to get a spot at the bar or a table would be awesome as well…”

Thanks to Jake, Matt and Rashida for sending the updates on Bravo Bar:
“The new owners reopened Bravo Bar (under the same name but new management) with some building renovations/modifications to the space. Bravo Bar opened in June as a hookah bar and will keep the same menu options including the hotdog, beer and shot deal and BOGO drink specials at $7 but will add on Ethiopian cuisine.” (more…)

From The Eleanor:
“The Eleanor, DC’s popular bowling lounge, restaurant and arcade, will re-open to the public this week and celebrate with a lineup of tasty specials.
Opening Day
Wednesday, July 28
The Eleanor celebrates its long-awaited re-opening with $1 oysters all day. Bonus: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m attending a bachelorette party in DC (convenient) and am looking to pass along some bar recommendations to the people planning it.
In this post-Covid world, what are some fun bars to go to? Not looking for a “club”- ideally a bar with a DJ or fun music, maybe even some dancing? Does that still exist? Bonus points for places in NW!”

After we posted about Velvet Lounge and Dodge City closing yesterday, a reader wrote: “The new lease is set for a new gay bar.”
A tipster (with an over 95% accuracy rating. update now 93%) tells me that it is likely from the same ownership as Dirty Goose located next door.
Update: “A TDG (Dirty Goose) owner here. We do know the plans for the spaces, but it is not us. We deeply respect the new operator and will let them announce as they see fit”
Stay tuned for when the announcement is made.
