Well this was worth the wait! Huge score for Park View and Georgia Ave. Thankfully the warm weather has been sticking around too. The owners tell me that Grand Opening is Saturday Nov. 12th at 6pm with the band Justin Trawick & The Common Good.

Thanks to all who sent emails about the soft opening last night. I’m told there will be a few more soft opening before Nov. 12th so those that live nearby may have a chance to see it person soon. It looks huge and when the colder weather finally does arrive, check out how sweet the inside turned out (also with a huge bar, dart boards and tvs):

I recognize that I’ve been saying dead sexy a lot but when I see something that is dead sexy I have no other way to describe it:

Right? I was very lucky to get an early look last night. It’s located in the strip of warehouses right across the street from the main Union Market complex. Hard to believe this is behind those front doors:

I am a boring drinker. I mostly like the classics and beer. Props as always to The Pug and Solly’s who pour my John Powers Whiskey deep every single time. God help me. I’ll also take this opportunity to laud all Suntory Japanese Whiskey in general. It is delicious. Now, my friend James Kvaal is a prodigious cocktail drinker because he’s fancy like that. I also was desperate for something to post at 12:45pm today so without further ado, I give you THE definitive list of best places to get a cocktail in the District of Columbia (and one in VA) according to James Kvaal:

Ed. Note: Obvious omissions include Barmini, Wisdom, Dram & Grain, Macon Bisro, Copycat Co., Bar Pillar, Jos. A. Magnus & Co. tasting room. What else am I/James missing?

“1. Columbia Room. Killing it right now. Tasting menu is world class.

2. Gibson. Grand-daddy of DC cocktail places.

3. Quarter + Glory. First rate drinks. So-so ambiance though.

4. The Partisan. I love walking through the deli into the grand bar area. Awesome meat snacks of course.

5. Petworth Citizen/Reading Room. First rate cocktails in the back room. Solid and good value cocktails at the main bar. (more…)

Big, if you frequent Barracks Row, news from Barred in DC:

Molly Malone’s is now called Finn McCool’s, which was the name of the bar that previously occupied the space before Molly’s opened in 2009. Pacifico Cantina is now Tio Javier.

In addition, Chesapeake Room closed for renovations (a similar fate befell Lola’s earlier this year). Even Senart’s Oyster House changed its last part of its name to Grille Room (from Chop House).”

From a press release:

“Derek Brown, Angie Fetherston and Drink Company will bring back Miracle on 7th Street this holiday season, returning even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural, viral sensation that turned the James Beard Award-nominated Mockingbird Hill into an over-the-top pop-up Christmas bar.

Miracle on 7th Street, which included whimsical winter wonderland décor touches like a dreidel chandelier and a nativity scene starring gilded dinosaurs, will take over Mockingbird Hill again — in addition to adjoining bars Eat the Rich and Southern Efficiency for triple the holiday fun.

In addition to the outstanding craft cocktail menu Washingtonians love, Stella Artois and Budweiser have partnered with Miracle on 7th Street to create a new beer cocktail for the themed menu, along with beer inspired swag and other boozy treats.

“Last year was so much fun, it’s hard to imagine how we could make it more fun, but guess what: we will,” says Brown.

Miracle on 7th Street will launch the day after Thanksgiving — Friday, November 25 — and will conclude with a New Year’s Eve bash on Saturday, December 31. More information to come!”

Tim Fegan reports over the weekend:

“Looks like Lola’s on Barracks Row is closed. Did I miss that news long ago?”

In September Capitol Hill Corner reported:

“DC Restaurateur Xavier Cervera Back as Owner of Eight Capitol Hill Restaurants

One of his first steps will be to temporarily close Lola’s Barracks Bar and Grill and begin a major refurbishment of the interior.”
