“Dear PoPville,

Advice needed. My 75 year-old mom is a Washington, DC native and long-time, die-hard Caps fan! I so want to get tickets for the Stanley Cup finals but cannot afford the cost of two tickets (~ $1400). Where do you think we could watch the games with other fans that would be fun and lively but not too rowdy for an ‘old’ lady? What bars / restaurants will likely show the games and fit that description? She lives in Northwest and I live in Northeast.

Thanks and GO CAPS!”

From an email bu add your recs in the comments please:

“Declaration Shaw & Nats Park will be offering an all-night happy hour every time the Caps take on the Knights. Declaration Shaw provides a more intimate bar to catch the games, whereas Nats Park has four flat screen TVs along with an outdoor walk-up bar. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Similar to the issue with Nellie’s earlier this year, I noticed that Rebellion on 18th and S Street, NW is also flying a Blue Lives Matter flag. Was it perhaps to encourage cops to show up during the recent National Police Week?”

Ed. Note: After flying a Blues Lives Matter flag in late March, Nellie’s wrote (in part):

“We now understand that flying this flag — at this point in time, in particular — was at best tone deaf, and at worst offensive. We sincerely apologize to our customers and our neighbors for this egregious mistake, and want to assure you that this flag will never fly at Nellie’s again. What it represents to you is not what we want to represent, or what we want our bar to be.”

From the Good Silver:

“The Good Silver, located at 3410 11th St NW in Columbia Heights, is happy to announce we are switching things up in a big way. After a year-long identity crisis (“is it a cocktail bar, a sports bar, or a tinder spot?”), we’re tearing it all down and starting from scratch. So, we’ve combined two of our favorite things: deli sandwiches and booze. If your favorite cocktail is whiskey neat, and you believe the path to enlightenment is on top of pastrami piled high, you will be right at home at the new Good Silver. The food menu, from chef Mytia Crawley, features cured and smoked meats from new, local company Epic Curing. For beverages we’re sticking to bottles, cans, combos and cocktails that don’t require a PhD to appreciate (all $10 and under).

Menu and more after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to Andrew for sending. On April 30th Five to One posted on their Facebook:

“Got some big things in the works. Unfortunately, those things will take a couple days to get in place. We appreciate your patience as we will be working tirelessly over the next couple days. Keep an eye on our social media for updates.”

Updates when more is known.

Back in December we shared some mouth watering Scuttlebutt that the folks from Bloomingdale’s Showtime Bar, across the street from Boundary Stone on Rhode Island Ave., had plans to open up a second spot in Brightwood Park on Georgia Ave (photo above.) [Showtime opened in Bloomingdale back in 2013 and is perennially placed on all the ‘best of’ lists around town.] A week ago I reported that Neptune Room was coming to 5405 Georgia Avenue, NW and because the liquor license placard listed the prolific Andrew Kline as attorney, I suspected this might be the rumored Showtime spot. And now a local food blog confirms it is indeed the Showtime folks: “Team Showtime confirmed”.

The liquor license placard for Neptune Room says:

“A new Retailer’s Class C Tavern. Seating capacity of 30 inside. Total Occupancy Load of 96. The License will include an Entertainment Endorsement for the inside of the premises only.”

The attorney listed on the placard is the prolific Andrew Kline who is usually involved with significant projects. Could this be related to the scuttlebutt about a 2nd bar from the owners of Showtime in Bloomingdale? Either way, STAY TUNED.

“Since 2010, Wilfredo Guzman, better known as “Will” by many in the neighborhood, has been arduously working on his vision to help be a part of the revitalization of the 5800 block of Georgia Avenue. Wilfredo is an example of hard work and perseverance. (more…)
