Philz Coffee is killing it in Adams Morgan!!

Over the summer a reader sent some scuttlebutt saying a new coffee spot, likely a Philz coffee, would be coming to the new Manhattan Development. They were close – instead of San Fransisco it’ll be more Philly coffee – La Colombe. Washington Business Journal reports:
“1346 Florida Ave. NW: Interior fit-out of space in this Douglas Development building, its Manhattan Laundry project, for a new 2,500-square-foot La Colombe cafe.”
This will be the third La Colombe in DC after the one in Blagden Alley and Chinatown.
God dang it, they closed way back in November – how come nobody told me? Last month we learned about the ownership change in Columbia Heights. Their Friendship Heights location closed back in 2013 (now a Le Pain Quotidien.) Actually a Le Pain Quotidien would probably kill in NoMa…
In other breaking NoMa news – ok I’m kidding about the bus depot but why is the development taking so long?
Maybe not a terrible thing because their marketing is suspect:

A reader reports:
“I stopped by Swings for my morning coffee and noticed this devastating sign. They are closing in March for an estimated 14 months while the CFPB building is renovated. While there are plenty of coffee shops in the WH area – Starbucks, Peets, Juan Valdez, and even Pleasant Pops across the park – losing Swings will be a tough blow to the neighborhood. Crazy to think that there will be a new President in the White House when they come back.”

Store leader Bridget McKay says mark March 26th as the official opening for Philz Coffee in Adams Morgan. She also says there will likely be some test runs open to the public beforehand so stay tuned for another coffee option in Adams Morgan very very soon. They’re located around the corner from the just opened and already popular Tail Up Goat.

“Clover Restaurant Group is excited to announce that Tynan Coffee & Tea in the Columbia Heights neighborhood has been sold to long-time operations manager, John Richardson, as of Friday, January 15, 2016. Mr. Richardson was with the company since the inception of Tynan Coffee & Tea shops.”

The Washington Post reports:
“The coffee bar will serve Tuesdays through Saturdays but will not have any seating until the patios at both Rose’s and Pineapple and Pearls become available in warmer weather. Everything is for takeaway.”

“New coffee shop, Philz, coming soon [this spring] in the Arris Apartment building which is still under construction.
FYI – the alley next to the building is pretty sweet too. Check out the industrial lighting and rusty, steel sculptures that have been installed. They tie in pretty nicely to the feel of the neighborhood I think.”
