“new coming in @ 6th & K NE “old city market & oven” sign says coffee & gourmet pizza” interesting combo…”

14th and Otis Pl, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I noticed this sign on the intersection of 14th st & Otis pl nw, and was wondering if there are any other details. This space is sharing the block with the Ethiopian market Black Lion, and seems to have been part of it in the past (based on signs outside). Looking forward to a nice coffee shop to this block!”
Back in July of 2013 we heard that an Ethiopian Coffee Bar was coming to this space. Very happy to see it’s finally happening!

1776 I Street, NW
Thanks to Adam for sending word about the newest Compass Coffee location. Last week we noted La Colombe’s quest for coffee domination with their coming location at the old Dickey’s Frozen Custard space on I Street, NW. Obviously that aggression could not stand unchecked so stay tuned for lots of great coffee options on I Street very soon.

A reader reports:
“The former Dickey’s Frozen Custard space on I St NW between 17th and 18th has a sign saying that La Colombe is coming to the space. Farragut is in dire need of good coffee, so this is a welcome addition.”
La Colombe now has locations at 924 Blagden Alley NW, 900 6th Street, NW and is opening soon to 1346 Florida Ave. NW.

550 Penn Street, NE
Not a lot of info but the Dolcezza Gelato Factory & Coffee Lab at 550 Penn St. NE behind Union Market has been closed a few weeks according to a reader. After a few inquiries I’m told:
“Dolcezza Factory is temporarily closed, but hoping to be back up and running at some point later this summer.”
Updates as provided.

655 Michigan Ave, NE
Back in April we learned that Halsa had closed and rumors were of a new Starbucks. Turns out to be true though the Starbucks might be located next door to the old Halsa space – I couldn’t tell if it was taking over both spaces – the liquor license placard (another Starbucks with beer and wine) posted next door says:
“A coffee shop that offers breakfast all day, along with savory small plates, and desserts paired with wine and beer selections. Sidewalk Cafe with a Total Occupancy Load of 30 seats.”

1346 Florida Ave, NW
Thanks to a reader for the update on La Colombe’s newest spot coming to Florida Ave:
This will be the third La Colombe in DC after the one in Blagden Alley and Chinatown.
