Thanks to a reader for sending word about the new spot inside the Convention Center:
“just as you walk in from the main entrance from Mt. Vernon Square Pl. on the left side. I believe there usted to be a Starbucks there.”
This will be Compass Coffee’s 5th DC location.

Dunkin Donuts Tenleytown is imminent in the former Bloo Moo frozen yogurt space:

And ICYMI on Saturday Night Live, this is awesome:

A reader reports:
“That coffee shop that has been coming soon for ages on 14th & Otis Pl opened on Monday. I grabbed a coffee this morning to check it out. The interior is quite elegant for a coffee shop — if they added some background music and there were more people, I wouldn’t mind having breakfast on a weekend. I found it similar to Le Caprice, so it could provide a nice Ethiopian alternative to the French cafe two blocks down the road. I saw some Ethiopian specialties on the menu (e.g., fit-fit), but the lady said they were not ready for those yet.”

The best. 1st and R Street, NW of course.

Good coffee news for H Street on this dreary Sunday – The Wydown opened up yesterday at the new Apollo building. The owners tell me:
“the coffee and bakery is open now; but the bar component of the cafe will open next week.”
A peek inside:

And don’t forget “guests of the cafe can enjoy their coffee, cocktail or wine in the cafe or anywhere in the lobby of the building.”

Wydown is looking so close to opening:

Over the summer when the Starbucks scuttlebutt was confirmed there was a lot of consternation from commenters. But I gotta say, having just seen it in person – it’s pretty damn dope. It’s one of those fancy Reserve Starbucks and I have to say the folks that worked there were incredibly nice. And the space really does look great:

From an email:
“Starting this Thursday Lost Sock Roasters will be doing a coffee pop-up in our space every Thursday-Sunday (730-12sh).
They will be doing drip coffee, pour-overs, and espresso drinks from beans they roast right on kennedy st.
We will be doing the food: wood-fired bagels, breakfast empanadas, and few other small things.”
