Coffy Cafe opened up back in 2012. I believe ownership changed a few months ago or so. The liquor license placard says:
“A Retailer’s Class “D” Restaurant serving crepes, sandwiches and small plates with Total
Occupancy Load of 37 with seating for 37. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment, with Cover Charge.”
You can see their menu here.

Thanks to a reader for sending this little tidbit from a KLNB marketing flyer: “Philz Coffee coming to former Cosi on Connecticut in Dupont.”
The Cosi closed back in 2014. This will be a third location for Philz in D.C. after Adams Morgan and Navy Yard.

1841 Columbia Road, NW
From an email:
“Pitango, a family-owned artisanal gelatería, will open Pitango Gelato + Café in Adams Morgan on October 28th, bringing an expanded concept to the neighborhood with savory and bar menus. Like a classic Italian café, the spot aims to be a welcoming hangout from breakfast cappuccino and croissants to evening sandwiches and charcuterie. The café will serve beer, wine–and Prosecco on tap. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:
“Mayor Bowser announced that Starbucks has signed a letter of intent to become the anchor tenant at a new affordable housing development in Ward 8, bringing jobs and business to a long-vacant parcel in the heart of historic Anacostia. (more…)

That was pretty fast. This is the old Red Robin and Boloco burritos space between K and L Street on 19th. You’ll be able to see Bold Bite’s menu here and you can see 202’s menu here.
That’s gonna be alotta coffee soon:

Washington Business Journal’s Michael Neibauer tweeted the news yesterday:
“Building permit issued for buildout of a new 2,593sf Starbucks in what appears to be the old Cafe Paradiso space, 2649 Connecticut Ave. NW.”
Cafe Pardiso closed after 27 years back in September 2016. In that time I’ve gotten tons of messages from folks wondering who was going in. I gotta say I’m amazed Woodley Park lasted this long without a Starbucks (though of course there is one across the street from the zoo.) On a personal note, I hope this alleviates the line at Dunkin Donuts. Yes that’s right, I like Dunkin Donuts coffee, there I said it. I also like their blueberry donuts. What’s up?!

Thanks to Christina for passing on from the Washington Business Journal:
“A fourth Blue Bottle Coffee is coming to the District, this one at the Metropole condominium building at 1515 15th St. NW.”
I’m guess this is the former Lululemon space at 1461 P St, NW. Blue Bottle opened up in Georgetown over the summer and has plans for The Wharf and Union Market.
Stay tuned.

From Peregrine Espresso:
“FREE coffee this coming Tuesday, September 5, for our 9th birthday. ALL SHOPS ALL DAY. Drip & iced.”
Locations are 660 Pennsylvania Ave SE, 1718 14th Street, NW and in Union Market at 1309 5th Street, NE.
From their Website:
“Peregrine Espresso was founded in 2008 by Ryan and Jill Jensen with the hope of serving great coffee to the people of Washington, DC, accompanied by great service, education and a focus on sustainability. The couple met while working at rival cafes but soon knew they would open their own after they were married. The Eastern Market cafe was their first baby, followed by a baby boy, then MidCity, Union Market, and another baby boy. Ryan continues his 15+ year coffee career shuttling between stores, intimidating staff and wrangling shop managers. Jill helps out with admin and special projects when not wrangling their boys. Thanks to Dana for sending. Yesterday we learned a Gregorys Coffee was also coming to Vermont and K St, NW. Looks we got a new coffee playa in town.
With multiple locations in New York City, Gregorys website says:
“At Gregorys, we believe that respect for our coffee and respect for our customers go hand in hand. So we take freshly roasted beans grown by skilled, dedicated farmers all over the world and prepare them for you in a way that will fit your needs without sacrificing the quality of the coffee. Grab one of delicious blends and run. Watch us pull you a shot of our one-of-a-kind espresso, with or without some expertly steamed and poured milk. Sit down with one of our single origin coffees and appreciate how its complex flavor changes as it cools. Whatever pace you’re going at, our friendly and skilled baristas will make sure that both your coffee and your experience are absolutely wonderful.”
