Thanks to Dino for sending. Compass Coffee opened up in the Convention Center back in January 2017. Compass Coffee recently opened up another location in Georgetown and have plans for one near the Convention Center at 655 New York Ave, NW.

Back in late December we reported that the longtime 17th Street tenant Steam Cafe was for sale. Apparently it sold. From the Dupont listserv:
“Just noticed today that Steam had closed. I’m sorry to see it go but I hope the owner had a nice payday. The new place will be an Indian kabob place and will open by the summer.”
Updates as we learn more.

Inside 1331 Pennsylvania Ave, NW “The former Secret Starbucks” by Deidre Lipsicas
DEVELOPING: “It’s moved to around the corner in the gift shop, same floor.”
UPDATE: “It’s not -exactly- a Starbucks in there though they do have coffee from Starbucks”
The massacre continues following closures in Dupont at 1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW and 21st and P and the one on 77 H Street, NW, AND 9th and G St, NW as well as the closure in Glover Park and 18th and I St, NW yesterday.
Deidre reports:
“Known and loved by many as the “Secret Starbucks,” the SB inside JW Marriott is permanently closed (may she Rest In Peace) and is not currently being replaced by anything.”

Thanks to a reader for sending word that “the Starbucks at 18th and I Street, NW is closing April 1st. It always seemed busier than others downtown.”
This will follow other recent closures in Dupont at 1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW and 21st and P and the one on 77 H Street, NW, AND 9th and G St, NW as well as the coming closure of one in Glover Park next month.
