Update: Confirmed. Filter Coffeehouse reportedly closing Dupont Location May 19th

1726 20th Street, NW

Update from Filter:

“Dear PoPville,

I just heard that Filter Coffee on 20th street in Dupont is closing after 10ish years? Has anyone else mentioned anything? Any idea of what will replace it?”

Another reader reports:

“Filter is closing it’s Dupont location this month. May 19th will be the last day of service. I’m….so so so devastated. Such a great community shop.

The foggy bottom location will remain open.”

And another:

“Absolutely beloved Dupont coffeeshop Filter is closing in nine days, May 19. Totally awful. The owner says the rent is too expensive. Which is absurd given how few high-quality DC-owned businesses there are (much less coffeeshops) in that part of Dupont. It’ll be a real blow to the neighborhood.”

Filter’s website says:

“Filter Coffeehouse and Espresso Bar opened in March of 2010 with the intent of sharing truly amazing coffee with Washington, DC. From hand-poured cups of carefully chosen single origin coffees, french pressed offerings in the morning hours, to classic espresso-based drinks, all of Filter’s products are chosen and prepared with an uncompromising commitment to quality and service. We are proud to join the small wave of coffeehouses in the DC area who are on the path of bringing the attention back to the main ingredient… Coffee.

What is so special about our coffee, you ask? Our coffees are carefully and artfully roasted by Ceremony Coffee, a local roaster in nearby Annapolis MD. Together we have chosen a select list of varietals that will entice everyone from the coffee novice to the constantly caffeinated coffee lover. We are perpetually on the path of learning about and perfecting each coffee we offer our customers.”
