“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to nominate a Friday Question of the Day: What is your favorite coffee shop? We’ve been trying to hit more coffee shops lately, and I was wondering if people have any favorites for good coffee, wifi, decent pastries or sweet treats, and comfortable to sit and enjoy for a while.

Along the same lines, I was also curious about where people go for their “third place,” i.e., a social environment that is not home or work? Bar? Coffee shop? Library?

Thanks to Elizabeth and all who sent word about the Southeastern Roastery collaboration at Dio Wine Bar on H Street. From Dio:

“January, 2020: We’re excited to announce a new collaboration with Southeastern Roastery! Local coffee roaster, Southeastern Roastery, is permanently taking over the Dio Wine Bar space during the day-time on Fridays, Saturdays, and the third Wednesday of every month. Owner Candy Schibli will pour her fresh, high quality, and seasonal coffees from 7am-1pm along with a small selection of tea and freshly fried donuts. (more…)

The liquor license placard for Urban Roast says:

“New Retailer’s Class “C” Tavern serving prepared sandwiches, salads, soups, and fruits. Applicant is applying for a Sidewalk Cafe Endorsement with 20 seats. Total seating inside is 75with a Total Occupancy Load of 120.”

Ed. Note: Presumably they’ll also have coffee.

And right next door will be District Bowls: (more…)

13th and G Street, NW

This is the old Johnston & Murphy space across from Metro Center that we first heard about back in July.

They’ve now applied for an outdoor cafe permit. Good news come springtime. Stay tuned for an exact opening date!

This will be their 4th D.C. location, with Logan Circle being their 5th. Update when we get an exact opening date.
