Thanks to Dennis for sending. To be honest I still haven’t figured out how to cover non coronavirus stuff. At first I was thinking humor, like that’s gonna be a lot of hand sanitizer. But then I remember all the folks who used to work there who are now out of work and it didn’t it seemed flat. So I don’t really know what to say except I hope this is a sign of resilience. (more…)

Thanks to all who sent the sad word. Many who reached out to me are upset about the way the news was delivered: “Compass Coffee, a DC based company just laid off 180 of their 200 employees abruptly with no compensation or support. Here’s the insufficient letter from the owner. It was heartbreaking for employees having worked there for years.”

Sadly similar lay offs have and will continue to occur throughout the industry. Please see the virtual tip jar for service industry workers. Hopefully baristas can be included too. And hopefully the District Council will provide support to the workers laid off as well. (more…)
