17th and L Street, NW

Peet’s Coffee opened up here back in 2014. Prior to Peet’s this space was home to a Caribou Coffee.

Back in 2015 and 2016, ducks, for some reason, used to like to hang out here.

There was a time…

‘Dear Peet’s Members, valued customers, and curious coffee drinkers:

It is with heavy hearts that we Peetnik’s of NOMA announce the permanent closure of this locatoin.

Our last day of business will be: Friday, Jan 30 6:00a – 2:00p

We want to express our deepest gratitude for your loyalty, kind words, shared laughs, hugs and genuine support over the years. We’ve been through A LOT together! Thank you all for making us a part of your daily routine and making us a part of your daily routine and making these past few years unforgettable.”

Thanks to Betsy for sending: “RIP to Peet’s in NoMa” (1275 First Street, NE.)

Thanks to Brett for sending the (not nearly as heartfelt) closing note from 17th Street: (more…)

“Please return the snow shovel and broom.

The shovel is my neighbor’s and she kindly let me borrow it. I lent it to you when we both had to move our cars because DC issued two tickets on the day of the snowstorm.

Apparently U St is an “emergency snow route” yet there is no signage on the block where we parked.

Please drop it off at…”

Thanks to Chris (and Sugar Bear) for sending:

“While walking my dog Wednesday morning I watch two coyotes cross Cathedral Ave on the 4100 block. They looked healthy and quite unbothered by the cold.”

If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in D.C.
