I decided to check out the Timor Bodega located at 200 Rhode Island Avenue after hearing so many good things in a previous comment section. I was not disappointed. First of all I love the fact that they call themselves a Bodega. For some odd reason this has been controversial in the past. I’m way pro bodega for the record.

This Organic Grocery has been opened since December by owner Kim Wee, 34 (photo after the jump). Mr. Wee stocks his store with organic and local produce (plus lots of great wine). The store continues to evolve based on neighbors requests. He is one of the few, if not only, shop to stock local produce 7 days a week. Since Mr. Wee runs the store on his own the hours are a bit limited during the week (4:30pm – 8:30pm Mon – Fri). If you want to see what an awesome bodega looks like you can check them out on the weekend as well (Sat. – Sun 8:30am – 7pm). Check out lots of great photos of the interior after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending the following news:

“Just wanted to let you know about a new restaurant coming in at 14th and Spring Road, just a block away from Red Derby. I live very near there and just noticed the signs yesterday. As you probably know, the new building it’s in has been in process for a while.

The place is called “Kikos Chicken,” and yes, they do have a Web site: http://www.kikoschicken.com/

Unfortunately, they don’t know how to spell, and they think that rotisserie chicken is a “new restaurant concept,” but if it’s good, I’m not gonna care too much about those things, right?”

I can’t believe I’ve never featured the grand church located off 16th and Park. The sun was hitting it just right last Saturday. Check out some great details after the jump.

“Dear PoPville friends and neighbors:

Before I get into all the hoohums and fancy talkin’, let me give the bottom line:

Wednesday night is my birthday party at Looking Glass Lounge. I’ve hired an Elvis impersonator to entertain. You are invited.

Okay, now for the back story…

I don’t know how your summer has been, but mine has SUCKED ASS.

You name just about any awful thing that could happen to someone and I know a person that’s experienced it this summer. I mean, in addition to the fucked up state of our economy and world. And in addition to the death, cancer, lay-offs, surgery, and other assorted terribleness that’s happened to the people I care about–I have not escaped myself. My beloved asshole cat died two weeks ago.

One evening I was sitting around sipping a few drops of liquid comfort (i.e. Yukon Jack), saying to myself, “Woe is me,” when I had a moment of clarity and enlightenment. Invite continues after the jump. (more…)
