The Allegro located at 3460 14th street is coming along nicely. You can see some of the red brick starting to go in. It looks pretty good from the alley as well:

We learned a while ago that this project is going to be rentals. So do you think these will rent out pretty quickly? Anyone know what the rent will cost?

A reader writes: “Have you seen the huge architectural model of the Columbia Heights “public realm” plan for streetscape improvements yet? It’s located inside the lobby of the BB&T Bank inside the Kenyon Square building, just outside the Columbia Heights Metro station. It’s a large model showing all the buildings in central Columbia Heights, with the proposed changes to the streets, sidewalks, and the design of the triangular plaza.”

For some reason the folks at BB&T Bank won’t let anyone take photos of the model. Fortunately, I was able to track down some PDF images that look pretty sweet. I didn’t know that a fountain will be going in! Nice. Anyway if you can’t see the image clearly as click below on “CH Streetscape” for a PDF version. Looks good, yeah?

CH Streetscape

On a side note, it looks like they put in some more bicycle locking stations:

More images of the planned streetscape after the jump. (more…)

The flyer says this rowhome at 1321 V Street, NW is:

“newly renovated townhome, 2BR/1.5BA, has gleaming wide plank maple flooring and ample closet space throughout. Light-filled kitchen with s/s Electrolux appliances, granite, custom cabinetry. Bath has porcelain tile flooring and full height shower, separate bathtub and vanity with limestone countertop. Front porch, back deck, off-street parking. 1 Block to Metro.”

More photos can be found here.

It’s a pretty sick location but is it a good deal for $675,000? Also, what do you think of the house and renovations in general?

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“District of Columbia officials have identified their partners that will oversee a $5 million development project of vacant properties on Georgia Avenue in northwest Washington.

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said Friday the city is working with Donatelli Development and Mosaic Urban Partners to create retail space and condominiums on the site of three properties, about a block north of the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station.”

I think these are the vacant properties at 3813 and 3825 Georgia Avenue. So here’s some scuttlebutt that I heard. Now keep in mind these projects are not likely to be completed until 2010 but there are still some exciting possibilities that have already emerged.

There has already been interest expressed by the owners of Marvin’s as well as interest from a hardware store that will have a garden center and finally some interest from the owners of Jackie’s in Silver Spring. Pretty exciting possibilities but remember it’s still scuttlebutt at this point…

Now we don’t need to have a debate about more community centers here if you’d like you can re-read that debate. But as for the folks that have been mentioned, which would you rather see – a Marvin’s, Jackie’s or Hardware store with a garden center?

Thanks to a reader for bringing this to my attention. Indeed it is a very sad sight. I wonder if there is some sort of disease going around? Hopeful some new trees can planted in their place.

Five MPD officers chilling outside the 7 Eleven. But it’s actually not fair of me because this was at the same time as the Ben’s Chili Bowl 50th Anniversary celebration. Did anyone check it last Friday?

Looks like it was pretty fun:

I also was excited to see the building next door open that will house the bar/lounge area.

Sadly, they were just selling t-shirts and other memorabilia.

I wonder when they’ll open, it looks like there’s still a bit of work to accomplish.

Oh yeah, did anyone check out the free concert at 9:30 club Sunday night?

A reader inquires:

“Hi, I pass by this address on the southwest corner of 11th and T on weekdays a bit after 5 am and later in the morning , and I see bunches of folks, inside and outside, neatly dressed in black pants and white shirts. Later in the day, the placed it shuttered and shaded. I’m usually behind schedule when I pedal by and I’m a bit embarrassed to ask what’s happening there. Looks like they all work at restaurants, but it strikes me as a mini-union hall rather than a place serving food (and I would take the risk of being late and pull over if there were yummy odors from there). Can you enlighten me, please?”

You were on the right track. The building at the corner of 11th and T houses a food services temporary agency called “Kitchen Match”. So you were probably spotting some servers. The owner that I spoke to was super nice so no need to be embarrassed if you wanted to stop by and say hello.

The medians outside the Petworth Metro both north and south were sodded this weekend. I think it looks ok but I was hoping we’d get some trees or flowers or something. I guess I was hoping we’d get something like this…
