Windows facing 14th Street

“Dear PoP,

I have been walking by this building for some time and knew that it would probably be turned into condos in the not too distant future. So the work is taking place as we speak but a couple of months ago I saw with much dismay that whoever is doing the conversion installed some really ugly windows facing 14th Street!!!!! how is this possible? the old windows are so cool and that is what I would want if I were going to live in a industrial style loft! Can we get a campaign going to change these butt ugly windows? I took some photos of the windows facing 14th and windows facing T – you can see for yourself that the windows on T are way better!!!!”

Windows facing T Street

That’s a good observation. I do think the windows facing T Street look better but I don’t think the ones facing 14th look terrible. Which do you guys prefer?

Well a quick google search hooked me up. Their Web site says:

“The City Tavern Club is a private social club located in the heart of Georgetown, 3206 M Street, NW, Washington, DC. The Club provides fine dining, elegantly appointed rooms for entertaining, popular member events and a diverse membership. City Tavern is also a top venue for private parties and meetings throughout the year. The historic Federal-Style clubhouse, acquired by Club founders in 1959, is one of oldest buildings in the nation’s capital, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Our membership is comprised of Washington professionals from all fields, including government, law, medicine, architecture, consulting and many others. The Indian King Society, or IKS, is chaired by younger members and organizes a variety of fun events. The Club maintains reciprocal relationships with over 100 clubs worldwide.”

You can read more history here. So how do I get invited to be a member…?

And while we’re on the topic, I’m just curious – what’s the most “exclusive” private club in DC?

Back in March I saw the Big Chair in Anacostia for the first time. And now I’ve finally seen the one at the Duke Ellington School at 35th and Reservoir Road. How many big chairs are there in the city?

At long last the details of the PoP 3 year anniversary party. I’m really excited about this one – it’s fixing to be pretty sweet. It will be held at Wonderland (like last year) located at the corner of 11th and Kenyon Streets, NW. It will start around 6:30/7pm. So here’s the cool part – if you have a PoP t-shirt wear it because Wonderland and Looking Glass Lounge (3634 Georgia Ave.) have been kind enough to donate a significant tab (no shots).  So free drinks until the tab runs out for all who are wearing PoP t-shirts.  I got the new batch of t-shirts in so you’ll be able to purchase or claim your caption contest spoils at the party.

And more generosity – Pete’s Apizza (1400 Irving St NW) has been kind enough to donate pizza! And more good news – James O’Brien, owner of Red Rocks Pizzeria (1036 Park Rd NW) and frontman for O’Tasty is reuniting the band for their first show in many months. They were phenomenal last year and are sure to rock again this year. They will go on at 9pm and DJ Stephan Outlaw will spin afterwards.

See ya Nov. 5th!

From an email:

“On December 5, Past Tense yoga studio (3253 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW) is hosting The Gift of Fab holiday sale featuring several of our talented staff like photographer Stacey Vaeth and students like pastry chef Josh Short. We are still looking for vendors so crafty locals should contact Kelly at [email protected] for more details.”

“Dear PoP,

A Metro complaint and a question for you and your readers: I flew into BWI tonight and caught the last B30 bus to the Greenbelt station. According to the timetable (http://www.wmata.com/bus/timetables/md/b30.pdf) the B30 is supposed to arrive at Greenbelt at 11:21 – in plenty of time to catch the last train. However, our driver spent a long, long time at each of his first stops (which are supposed to take a total of 6 minutes with driving time) and our bus didn’t arrive at BWI until 11:36, which means I missed the last train by 7 minutes. 5-10 others were stranded too, but unfortunately they weren’t going to the same part of DC as me, so I had to catch a cab on my own to get back to Petworth, and the damage came to $35.

My questions:
1) Has anyone had this happen before (the B30 bus cause you to miss the last train)?
2) Is it even worthwhile to complain to Metro? If so, what’s the most effective way?
3) Are there alternative ways to get from Greenbelt into town to avoid cabs?”

Wow, that’s pretty damn frustrating. But I think it falls under the shit happens category. I don’t think it would be worthwhile complaining to metro. What’s your best method of traveling from BWI to DC?
