3116 Mount Pleasant Street, NW

And now for the bad news…

Thanks to Terry and Naomi for sending this incredibly sad news from Mount Pleasant:

“Dos Gringos in Mt Pleasant is closing at the end of the month. I just talked to Alex, the owner, this morning and she told us the last day is April 26th. It’s not public anywhere that I know of. That place is a Mt Pleasant institution and we’re all very sad to see it go.

(FWIW, it seems like a new spot will be opening up there in mid-May that Alex seems excited about — but still very sad)” (more…)

From an email:

“Unido, Washington, D.C.’s premier destination for 100% Panamanian-grown coffee, is expanding its footprint inside La Cosecha at Union Market District, taking over the elevated and largest anchor space, and will reopen as an all-day food and beverage destination next week. To celebrate the new location, Unido is hosting a Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, April 17th at 6 pm.

The expanded café and bar space will not only continue to serve its signature coffee drinks, but the team is rolling out a new all-day breakfast menu, plus an enhanced lunch and dinner menu featuring fresh takes on Central, South, and North American flavors. I’d actually never heard of this. If it was one, like Waymo, since it’ll be driverless it must have been in testing mode. Anyone else see one of these? (more…)

14th and Rhode Island Ave, NW previously home to a 7 Eleven

“Dear PoPville,

Do you know what’s finally going in the space on the southwest corner of 14th and Rhode Island Ave across the street from Shake Shack? There are permits on the door and the windows are covered in brown paper. The permit on the door says restaurant and the permit on the window says condos.”

Anyone hear more details of what/who’s coming here?
