District Coalition. A non-profit taking a fresh look at the classical music scene in our city. There are more than 250 classical music concerts in DC per year. But they are highly concentrated by location. Around 94% occur in a single ward of D.C., Ward 2, known for very high-income residential neighborhoods such as Georgetown and Capitol Hill. 97% are held in churches and large auditoriums defined by their formality. They are also long… averaging around 120 minutes, and offer few opportunities for interaction among audience members.

Update from CM Pinto’s office: “DPR let us know Francis Pool is on track to reopen Memorial Day Weekend this year!”

Ed. Note: I’ve asked DPR for an update on Francis but haven’t gotten a response yet. In April CM Frumin said “re-open, hopefully within the next three weeks”. Apparently taking a bit longer…
