“Dear PoPville,

In the continuing saga of snakes raining down from the sky, this one landed three feet from me when I was at the Glover Park community garden on Saturday. I think–I hope–that a bird dropped it. And am very grateful it didn’t land on me, or I’d still be screaming.”

I never had this fear until I lived here. Hope the rest of your day was better, OP.

  • Hill Denizen

    OMG, that’s terrifying.

  • DE

Sure it didn’t fall from a tree? That’s the usual way.

[God, I wish we could post images here.]

    “There’s motherf**king’ snakes on the motherf**kin’ plane!”

  • Hisssssssssssssss

OP Here… The closest tree was 20 feet away and there are no overhead branches.

      Great temporary username.

This makes me so mad. There’s no rats in the trees so I don’t want snakes wasting time up there. The snakes are not on a f***ing vacation — they have a job to do and it’s not in a tree.

That was such a good laugh, thanks!

      Good one.

Anyone want to weigh in on the kind of snake? My (poorly educated) bet is on a hognose snake.

    • anongardener

Northern Brown Snake? Doesn’t look chunky enough to be a hognose.

      • Anonymous

It’s Storeria dekayi (common name: brown snake/northern brown snake or De Kay’s snake): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storeria_dekayi They have that distinctive checkered pattern and are very common here.
