Afghania Afghan Gourmet finally opened – check out the menu!

2811 M Street, NW

We first heard about Afghania coming to the former Don Lobo’s space back in September 2021.

You can see their menu here.

“Welcome to Afghania, where the Steppe of Central Asia meets the Hindu Kush and Suleiman Mountain Range, bordering South Asia. Come and enjoy the warm hospitality, exquisite flavors, and the mystery of the Afghan frontier that so many have been intrigued by.

At Afghania you will enjoy some classical dishes of the warriors from the frontier. Smoked meats, vegetables full of flavor, exotic spices, exquisite flavors and aromas and unmatched hospitality are promised at Afghania.

Come and enjoy dishes that date back to the early 1800’s from the Afghan Empire – Afghania.

Shah Zaman was deposed and blinded by his brother Shah Mahmud in 1801 AD. Years after that, in 1234 AH/1818 AD, in a letter to Rashid Pasha, the Ottoman chancellor called his conquered territory “Afghania”, after prayer upon you.

“I would like to bring to His Majesty’s attention that this humble servant of Allah, after my father’s death, I sat on the throne and conquered Afghania, including Khorasan and some regions of India up to Kashmir, Lahore, Sind, Multan and Shikarpur up to the shores of the Great Sea, and Kandahar and Balkh up to the shores of the Jihun Sea, around Bukhara and Kingdom of Herat, and up to non-Arab lands and others, the entire description of which shall be verbosity.”

(Timurshah Durrani, vol. 2, p. 548).

Anyway, Ahmad Shah, Timur Shah, Zaman Shah, and Shah Shuja, none of them called the territory under their command Afghanistan.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
