Great news! Now it’s time for the Dave Thomas Circle Wendy’s to close down …. DDOT pretty pretty please? I’ll take 10 more years of crack and heroin at Fl/NCap to improve that intersection.

    • anon

How would taking crack and heroine improve an intersection? Are you a talented transportation engineer, but only when intoxicated?

      • TJ

        Heroines can do anything

      • Anon

        Zero-sum game, chief.

    • I Dont Get It

Why is it great news that BQ has closed?

      • I Dont Get It

BK not BQ. Sorry, was having Burger Queen flashbacks ( yes that was once a thing).

      • tim

        burger queen?

        • I Dont Get It

Which reminds me of the Burger Farm commercial I was once in but I should probably save those stories for “Random Reader Rant and/or Revel: Flashback Edition.”

        • TX2DC

It’s up the street from the Dairy King.

      • NearNortheaster

It’s a poor use of space in a lot close to the NoMa metro. A multi-story building will replace BK, including apartments and retail bays. I’m fine with BK, McDonald’s, Wendy’s staying in the neighborhood, but they shouldn’t look like their suburban counterparts.

  • anonymous

I still don’t understand how they are going to squeeze that new building plus the park they are creating on the lot. Will be interesting to see this go up.

    • anon

The building is basically the footprint of the existing parking lot and the park will be on what’s currently a swath of woodlands abutting the train tracks. Makes sense to me.

      • Anon

Thst park will be roughly the same size as that park at Fl/NCap.

    • Anonymous

The site is 28,394 square feet. The building is occupying 72% of the land. The building will be 193,667 square feet of net residential area. There will be 313 units, 132 studios, 159 1-bedrooms, and 22 2-bedrooms. All of this, and more, available from your friendly zoning commission at https://app.dcoz.dc.gov/content/search/Search.aspx (Case 15-01 and 15-01A)

1771 Columbia Road NW appears to be you’re only remaining option in the District, and even that doesn’t seem like it’ll be there much longer.

I believe the one on Connecticut Ave. is still open.
There used to also be one in Dupont, and more recently one near Verizon Center.

          • Mars

The Van Ness Burger King is on its way out too. Last I heard, they were going to replace it with a Chick Fil A.

          • Yes that is confirmed!

          • anon

Yup; Conn Ave is gonna be Chik-fil-A. I thought it was already closed. Pretty sure the Dupont and Verizon Center ones are both closed.

  • skj84

Good riddance. I once had an employee threaten me with cleaning rod at this location.

    • Colhi

What the heck is a cleaning rod?

      • skj84

I think it was some sort of wire rod thing they used to clean the fryers? He was swinging it us, so I didn’t stick around to get a good look.

  • Philippe Lecheval

I’m glad it’s closing mostly because the drive-thru didn’t have a bike lane.

    • Bdylan89

You can bike through the drive through….never heard of anyone doing that. I’ve dried walk throughs before but they always yell and you and refuse to take your order :-(

      • skj84

Which is the reason I got threatened at this location. My friend and I tried to walk through the drive through because the dining room was closed. They not only would not take our order, but got nasty when we pushed back a bit. Granted we were drunk, but still not a reason to attempt to assault us.

  • BK chicken sandwich with fries layered onto it has been a guilty craving staple of mine since college days. R.I.P.

  • Sydney

Will this affect the shantytown behind it, just to the west, along the railroad tracks? Stolen motorcycles, used syringes, and semi-used building supplies back there, if anyone dares.

  • neighbor

Wendy’s or Pizza Hut in Petworth next to go? Please, please, please!!!!

  • J_L

When I was growing up, we used to go to the one on Georgia Ave near Howard University. They had a drive-thru and I always noticed that the lane had a big picture of the owner! Now it’s an Enterprise Rent-a-Car, I think.

  • tom

Service wasn’t terrrrible here, but seemed like the food was never really fresh when I ordered it. No big deal, I still liked the place….but am a little disappointed it closed before I got to try a Whopper Dog (not even being sarcastic).

  • DupontDad

Bets on what’s going in its place, if anything?

  • A Man Has No Name

No more BK Lounge on Florida? Where am I going to use my coups?

  • brookland_rez

    LOL the truth comes out.

    • brookland_rez

In response to the drunk guy trying to walk up to the drive through

  • Karin

A few months ago I saw a film crew and the “real live” BURGER KING there!
