THe Revival of the Slum Historique building in Shaw continues to amaze me. The new barbershop that is set to open the first week of April is looking great:

Here’s what the building looked like in only 2010:

Actually, I think the Slum Historique building is one to the south, on the Q street corner. I used to live a couple blocks from there and knew Ray, the guy who painted all those buildings. I wonder if he knows what to do with himself these days — or even recognizes his surroundings.

Any idea what sort of barbershop?

    • I hope it’s the kind where they have barbershop quartets. Also properly licensed bloodletting services. So tired of second-tier leech establishments.

Good to hear, as I am in need of a new place. Bang just isn’t doing it for me any more. I leave feeling foolish…and put a ball cap on.

  • I was a bit bummed when I poked my head in and saw what it is, as I won’t frequent a barbershop, but the comments here are giving me a bit of a reminder that it’s still beautiful development that will help the neighborhood and create some jobs, too!

Wow. I used to live a few blocks from there on 9th and always wished someone would restore that building. Looks like they did a beautiful job. Kudos to them!

  • Lovely decor but looks pricey. I’ll stick to buzzing it for free or go to the Hair Cuttery.

i’m looking forward to more $40 haircuts (not really).
