New Tavern Coming to Old El Sol Space at 1930 9th St, NW

by Prince Of Petworth — February 7, 2012 at 3:31 am 5 Comments

Back in Oct. 2011 we spoke about El Sol Mexican restaurant closing at 1930 9th St, NW (just south of U St.) I had noticed construction for the last few months but they’ve recently applied for a liquor license which says it’ll become a:

“New Tavern with an occupancy load of 122. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to include dancing and cover charge.”

More info as it becomes available.

I live on the next block down, and REALLY do not want a nightclub going into this space. The buildings on that block are not soundproofed, and a couple of them are operating (illegally) as nightclubs now. The noise coming out of them is unbelievably loud. I am writing our ANC to protest this, or at least ensure that they have to soundproof the building, or operate within limited hours (ie, live music done by midnight on the weekends). I am NOT anti-everything- I’m excited about the way the neighborhood has changed in the last couple of years- but I don’t want to become Adams Morgan II.

  • I miss El Sol

  • Not related to the past or future occupant of the building, but I gotta say… beautiful facade.

    Nice door, too!
