Found this adorable cat on my way home but couldn’t get a good still image of him, so I took a video. I saw him on Park Road Northwest between 14th and 16th at 7pm on Thursday January 31. He looks really healthy, good size, probably a young adult male, with gray and white markings. He was incredibly friendly and wanted to be pet, makes me think he has a home or at least lived inside at some point. He could be a stray, but I didn’t see a clipped ear or indication that he didn’t have a home.
I can’t upload the video because its too large, and tried doing a screen grab from it but the cat moves too fast to get a clear snapshot. Here’s the link to the dropbox file (I know, mysterious link not enticing, sorry)
There is an active eviction in process by US marshals at 805 Rock Creek Church road NW in progress right now. Furniture is being carried out by occupants of the house. US Marshalls carried out the raid at approximately 9am Monday morning. It has been a long and trying ordeal.

I have attended the last several PSA (Police Service Area) 302 meetings, most have only 1 attendee -me. Last month, it was a better meeting/discussion as @ 10 people from my building attended as well.
I have lived in DC for 20+ years and it wasn’t until a few years ago I found out there were community-police meetings. There is no mass blast from the MPD that residents could sign up for or an easy way on their website to find out about said meetings. I am hoping this forum post might serve as a “MASS BLAST” & publicize the PSA meeting for the Columbia Heights/302 neighborhood that is for tomorrow night @ 7PM.
More attendees garner more attention to specific neighborhood issues – I have included the PSA 302 map [Basically, 16th St. NW – east to Park Place NW; and Monroe St. NW – south to Harvard St. NW]

Thanks and I hope I see some of my fellow Popvillers there. 🙂
Early this morning around 4:30am someone stole two bicycles from our backyard: one dark green Surly Cross-Check with white fenders and one brand new grey Trek 7.2 FX. I’m desperate to get them back, and so I welcome folks who might see them up for sale to buy them back–I will reimburse you. You’ll know the Surly is stolen because my U lock is locked to the frame.
Hi! So, years ago and maybe more recently, there were a lot of complaints around the web and here (http://www.popville.com/2011/07/thurs-afternoon-rental-option-columbia-heights-7/ & http://www.popville.com/2011/02/tues-afternoon-rental-option-columbia-heights-6/) about bed bugs at Tivoli Gardens in north Columbia Heights.
There was a “Tivoli Gardens Update in the forums in 2012 (http://www.popville.com/forums/topic/status-of-tivoli-gardens/) and I want to reboot the conversation.
I’m thinking about renting one of the newly renovated units in the Otis building and curious if the bugs are still a problem. Thoughts? About the bugs or about the property in general. I’m really on the fence.
I’ve been going to the 11th Street dog park for a month or so, and I’ve noticed that the nice double-gated entrance has padlocks on it making it completely unusable. Does anyone know why the locks are there, or if there’s any plan to have the gates in use at some point? I remember seeing that this isn’t an “official” dog park per se, but that Metro owns the property and lets people use it as one. It still seems odd to me though to have the gates and not have them be usable.
Anyone know what’s set to take place of the old rib pit? It looks like new business licenses have gone up in the windows. The lights were on the other night as if people were fixing it up. And now, ta-daaah, it’s orange instead of yellow! Anyone know what’s happening?

What are the easiest ways for a visitor to park overnight in the District? Are there any reasonably priced overnight garages? Are the metro parking garages in VA/MD safe for overnight parking? My apartment complex has visitor parking, but it is expensive and first-come-first-serve, so I’m hesitant to rely on this.
I also have a visitor parking pass, but worry about my guests being ticketed if they have not gone through the ROSA exemption process yet. Am I understanding correctly that DC parking enforcement does not ticket for the first sighting of an out-of-state vehicle? In that case, street parking may be a viable option. Does anyone have tips or tricks for overnight street parking?
My partner and I are looking to rent our home’s basement apartment in Columbia Heights and we want to know what a fair asking price would be. We’re in the process of obtaining a legal CofO, but do not anticipate any difficulties (everything is to code). More about it:
newly redone (fresh paint, tiles, windows, new appliances)
has basic kitchen (no super-fancy appliances to account for)
decent natural light on both the front and rear
spans the full length and width of the house, so it’s pretty enormous
about one block to the metro
not much outdoor space
How much would you be willing to pay for this setup?
My partner and I are considering buying a home and one of the items on a must-have list is semi-peaceful outdoor space. We’re currently looking at a row house in Columbia Heights with a very small backyard area (mostly consumed by a massive AC unit), but a sizable front lawn space.
Does anyone know what kinds of zoning rules or neighborhood regulations we might come up against if we decided to put in a few paving stones for a patio? What about arbors and tallish shrubs/hedges? I’ve seen several attractive front yard spaces in Columbia Heights, but we’d like to comply to code and add at least an illusion of privacy to an outdoor space we’d be using often.
I am a health and fitness professional looking to start some independent work outside of my full-time position. I wanted to ask the community if there would be any interest in an outdoor boot camp? I am thinking in Columbia Heights or Capitol Hill neighborhoods or both! If so, what days/times would people be interested in? What meeting places would participants enjoy? I am open to all input actually. Thank you!
Has anyone else heard the sudden, huge booms happening in Columbia Heights over the last few days? The first time it happened it set off car alarms on my street, but I never hear sirens or anything afterwards. It happens in the middle of the day and the middle of the night.
Anyone have any idea what it could be? It scares the shit out of me every time! Especially the ones at night.
The ATV/dirt bike people were back out in force in Columbia Heights this weekend. Around 2-dozen vehicles rode north on 11th just before 7pm (and I called it in). A few minutes later, they were riding south on 14th. The police (per usual) did absolutely nothing. I understand that pursuit could make things more dangerous – I pulled over on 14th on my bicycle to avoid getting run over a few yards behind a police SUV with two officers sitting inside who probably couldn’t have done much.
I’d like to suggest that MPD give their officers some high quality cameras to tape the riders. If I had thought to pull out my phone, I could have easily captured most of their faces. Since they tend to ride in the same areas, it should be easy capture on camera. If the police come across the riders at a later date, they may be able to identify them and confiscate the vehicles.
Anyone have thoughts or suggestions on how to forward this idea to MPD/DC govt?
