I had the pleasure of going to Solly’s the other day for the first time in a VERY LONG TIME. And I have to say, besides a new bartender (who was super nice), the place, the vibe, the everything was EXACTLY as I remembered it. It was such a nice feeling. You can go home again from time to time. So for today’s FQotD: What hits every time you go, no matter how long it’s been? Where’s your happy place when you need to recharge?

Welp, I impulse bought a mosquito zapper and THEN read the reviews. I’m just freaking out about the mosquitos and got caught in a weak moment. Oh well, apparently I made a very dumb purchase. I’ll report back when I try it out but my confidence is not high. In that case, lemons into lemonade I say!! Let’s commiserate: What was your worst, impulse or not, purchase?

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if you might be inclined to revisit this conversation.

Specifically, I think my question is: Have you (“you” meaning “reader”) given up your seat on metro recently?

I ask primarily because I am currently 34 weeks pregnant + a regular metro rider (my office requires two in-person days / week so I ride metro at least four times / week). Personally, I’ve had the same experience your 2016 reader had: I’ve been offered a seat on metro exactly twice during my pregnancy, both times by someone I perceived to be a young woman. Read More

Alright, let’s head to super random land. So I absolutely love country music now. When I was kid I would rather listen to absolutely else besides country. I don’t know if it was my college days in Ohio but country (and other styles) is definitely my jam these days. I also now like asparagus :)

What are things you hated as a kid but now love?

While we wait for The Atlantis to open, let’s take the opportunity to revisit our favorite shows from the 9:30 Club? My favorite remains Sturgill Simpson (though my first Thievery experience was pretty magnificent too) and I’m super excited to be going to Drive-By-Truckers next month – it’ll be my first show there since the pandemic. Can’t wait. You guys? Favorite all time? Most recent show you saw there? Do you find you’re going to as many shows as you used to, or much less frequently?

In honor of today’s glorious holiday falling on a Friday – let’s dedicate today’s question to beer of course. My current favorite local seasonal is The Precious One from Atlas. So good. My favorite beer currently pound for pound delicious and consistent is Dogfish Head 90 minute. My current favorite lager mass produced is a tie between Pacifico and Spaten. You guys?

And of course – celebrate safely today! Sláinte

“Most people hate the taste of beer to begin with. It is, however, a prejudice.” – Winston Churchill

“A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it’s better to be thoroughly sure.” – Czech Proverb

This week I got an email and the signature line had their name, email address, phone number and “Currently Reading:” which I just thought was the coolest. I’d never seen that before. So, I’m currently reading Isaac’s Storm by Erik Larson and am loving it. All of his books are just terrific. So what are you currently reading? And if it’s not good or you’re taking a break – what was the last memorable book you read?

Just noticed these new (to me) VEO scooters and e-bikes and was wondering if anyone had used them and how they compare to other scooters/bikes. But then I thought what the hell – let’s expand the question a bit for a proper FQotD – how do you get around town mostly these days? Bus? Bike? Car? Walk? Scooter? Metro? Uber/Lyft? Moped? Other?

And while I’m saying what the hell, please enjoy this old favorite that I haven’t shared in a while: Read More
