  • Is Charlie Sheen driving?

  • No Popemobile? (I guess this was him just being transported from point A to point B, not the parade from this morning?)

“When he first assumed the papacy, Pope Francis was given a new Mercedes M-Class Popemobile, complete with a bulletproof glass box. This had become standard following the attempted assassination of John Paul II in 1981.
But the Pope has made it clear that he prefers open-sided vehicles, once referring to the traditional popemobile as a glass “sardine can” that stops him from mixing with the people.
Over the course of his papacy, Pope Francis has used modified Toyotas, Kias, Hyundais and Land Rovers among others. When he is in Rome, he often opts for a Ford Focus. This is in sharp contrast to previous papacies, during which almost a third of the vehicles have been designed by luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz.”

    • Yep – the Popemobile for this trip is a Jeep Wrangler, but he only rode in it for the short trip around the Ellipse.

  • “Fiat” is Latin for “let it be done according to thy word” in reference to the Annunciation. How appropriate!
