Judging New Cafes – Songbyrd Cafe

2477 18th Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Recently tried out the new Songbyrd cafe in Adams Morgan. The food was really, really good! The vibe is pretty cool and I am excited for what will hopefully be a small music venue in the second half of their space. Plus, check it out, they saved the old BOB sign from outside and it’s part of the decoration inside.

Any other readers try this spot?”

  • Have been a few times, every time I’ve gone it’s been delicious. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere — excited for the bar to open up next door also! Go if you haven’t been.

  • By far my favorite new establishment in DC. Have been multiple times, great service, super friendly, and the sandwiches are tasty. Always good tunes playing as well. Hope they make it!

  • The food is really good! The seating is odd like a 70s bus station. Wish they had more tables. Otherwise a great addition to the neighborhood.

  • Awesome food, great vibe. Owners are always there chatting up customers and are super nice. The head phone/spotify things on the counters for listening to music are so cool and nostalgic (in a good way). Can’t remember what the schnitzel sandwich is, but it’s awesome.

  • Love this place. Very nice staff and great food. My favorite spot in Adams Morgan where I live.

  • LOVE this place. Has a great vibe and great food – I’ve tried it for breakfast and lunch and both have been fantastic. For you Gluten free folks, they offer bread and pastries from Rise bakery down the street.

  • Stopped by a few times. Had a tasty sandwich and some very good iced coffee. Glad to have it in the neighborhood and can’t wait for the live music half to open!

  • I have not been to this place exclusively because of the “BOB” sign. Why did they think it was clever or kitschy to keep half of a sign from a tacky kabob shop that never even opened? It would be one thing if it the kabob place belonged to a DC institution that had fallen on hard times. Instead it looks like they are desperately trying to be hipsters. Also, I didn’t even realize it was open for the first month because the “BOB” sign still made it look vacant. I assume I was not the only one since they have now taken down the original “BOB” and replaced it (!!!) with a painted one.

    • the Songbyrd folks commented on this in an April PopPost:

… anyone who has dismounted channel letters knows it is tedious and back when we hung temporary signs for Admo Day 2014, “Bob” refused to budge…
