Your Afternoon Animal Fix + Found Kitten

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“Nala from Columbia Heights helping out with the Sunday crossword.”

“Nathan thinking 14th Street sure has changed.”

“This is Norah, from Logan Circle, enjoying the fall weather and lovely fall leaves! We adopted her from Lucky Dog Rescue May 2010 and she is amazing. Yes, her tongue is always out, it does not fit in her mouth.”

“My husband and I found a gray kitten that seems to be about 3 or 4 months old. She (we think it’s a she) appears healthy and is extremely friendly. She showed up at our door tonight in the rain, and after 2 hours of begging, we took her into the garage and set her up with food/water/bed. She is very comfortable with humans so it seems unlikely that she is a stray. We are wondering if this adorable kitty belongs to one of our neighbors. We live on Quincy Street in Petworth.”

  • What a cute kitten. I really hope she finds her home!

  • To the found kitten: There are two kittens (maybe that’s one of them?) who live on Quincy just west of 13th. I know that is vague but they are on the south side of the street maybe 2 or 3 houses west of 13th? An older black man is the resident. I don’t know the exact address but we have seen them many times walking our dog.

  • omg i love lucky and her little tongue!

  • I wish my dog would help me with the crosswords. She prefers to try to eat the paper.

  • It’s hard to tell from the picture – is the kitten gray/white with white socks on all but his front right foot?

  • Also to the found kitten: There are several kittens, all belonging to the same house. They’ve been there for a few weeks now and roam the sidewalk regularly. They appear fed and mostly taken care of, but they are very used to people at this point for good or for ill. I’ve noticed that at least a couple have flea collars, the others don’t. One with a collar was waiting for me on my stoop yesterday. I’m not sure what the deal is in regards to ownership but didn’t want to let it into the house, lest it make a habit of it.

  • *Her foot. Heart’s kinda racing that you might have found Quill…

    • Andrew, I am the person who found the kitten. I’m very sorry to say that this isn’t Quill. This kitten is totally gray without any white.

  • Shoot. Thank you. Best of luck placing her, it seems like there’s a fair number of human-raised kittens being kicked out of their former homes in this part of Petworth.

  • I had a dog that looked just like Nathan as a youth. RIP Goliath.

  • Regarding the kitten, have you checked to see if she is chipped? We had our cat chipped when he was a kitten, just in case he wandered off. Most vets should be able to check, but you may want to call ahead. Good luck!

    • Webster Res,
Yeah, we did have the vet check for a microchip but there was none. It was a good idea but ah well. Thank you.

  • Aww, cute kitten! (And cute dogs too.)
