Dear PoP - Zombies Raid the Real World DC House

Shooting/Homicide in Alley, 5300 block between 1st and 2nd St. NW

A reader sends in the unfortunate news:

“I just got home (2 am) to find the alley behind my house roped off with police tape and two cops standing at each end, and another half dozen cops under a mobile light at the intersection of the east-west and north south alleys in the 5300 block of 1st/2nd Sts. NW. I asked the cops at my end of the alley what had happened, and he said someone had been gunned down in the alley and was dead. He wouldn’t tell me anything more than that.”

This isn’t the first killing in that area in the past few months is it? There’s been a liquor-bottle’n'teddy-bear shrine in the unit block of Kennedy with some dudes in folding chairs ‘guarding’ it every night for at least the last month or two.

CM Bower is on top of this since she posted the following message below to the MPD group last night.

Neighbors- I regret to report that MPD is on the scene of a fatal shooting. A victim of gun violence, a 20-year old male died at the scene of the shooting in the 100 Block of Jefferson St NW. MPD is currently investigating and the following areas are closed: the 5500 block of 1st street N.W. and the 100 block of Jefferson street N.W. in both directions. Man, first it was the shooting on Bryant St a few months ago and I moved to this?! How is the community failing its fellow citizens so badly.

I don’t know about whether something happened recently over by Kennedy, per ontarioroader’s question, but the alley where this occurred, right behind my house, is frequently used for dealing drugs. Even still- a homicide is a surprise for this neighborhood. It wasn’t that late when this happened either- only about 11pm when we heard the gunshots. Sad sad sad.

This morning’s Post says the victim was a 26 year old man who lived less than a block from where the shooting occurred. No further details about the motive, and apparently no arrests, as the article says MPD is seeking information from the public about the killing.

This man was a great person to know he was a father as well as a friend. He was basically killed in his backyard only several houses away. To all of you writing here he was one of our neighbors who had dreams who wanted the best for his family and nobody mentions that. To know him personally was a blessing, he took life so seriously and lost it so senselessly. SON YOU WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED AND MISSED!!!
