Massive news from a New York Times profile about Eric Hilton:

“Next, he gestured to No. 2014 next door, a shuttered rowhouse where Mr. Hilton plans to open a Korean barbecue restaurant with Erik Bruner-Yang, known for his ramen shop Toki Underground on H Street. It is one of four restaurant projects Mr. Hilton has underway.”

Stay tuned for more info on this and the other three projects underway.

From an email:

“Location: Shaw (located in The Shay) – 1924 8th Street Suite 105, NW
Opening Date: Friday October 30, 2015

Design and Important Details:

With the launch of Warby Parker M Street in Georgetown, we released a limited edition frame to celebrate: Percey in Crystal with a mirrored lens along with a custom lens pouch. We’re excited to re-release this frame exclusively to our D.C. retail customers, along with a lens pouch exclusive to Warby Parker Shaw.

Customers will be greeted by a soft-glowing individually-lit lettered sign and inside, they will find elegant displays of books, custom brass library lamps, and leather seating aplenty (for reading and relaxing). Suspended globe lighting, custom checkered terrazzo tiled floors, and a selection of books sourced from our favorite independent publishers (also for sale to take home) invite you to stay a while, whether just lounging or contemplating frame choices. We’re overjoyed that our friend and artist, Maira Kalman, has collaborated with us for our Shaw location: her distinctive (and incredible) drawings will line the walls of our new store.

Step into our photo booth to see how your new frames look. The Booth’s background is created by artist Alia Penner – whose madly creative pastiches illustrated our very first TV AD (and our first ever store photo-booth). Visitors will get a real-life photo strip and a digital copy mailed to them. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone know what’s going on to the building right by Duffy’s? Looks like it is finally under construction.”

I’ve been getting a few emails mentioning that work had finally started at 2100 Vermont Ave, NW. Back in August of 2014 we finally learned who’d be moving into long vacant building next to Duffy’s – Wet Dog Tavern. The liquor license placard revealed it’ll be:

“Tavern serving American Food. Occasional live entertainment to include Deejays, live music
and dancing.

Sidewalk Café Seats is 30, Summer Garden with Backyard Seats of 70.

Summer Garden RoofDeck total is 30

Entertainment Endorsement, Cover Charge, Dancing. Total Occupancy Load 200.”

Stay tuned.

I was able to get a sneak peek at a preview party last night and it is pretty swank. Some of the theaters were much smaller than I expected but damn the seats are posh.

For those who missed the earlier release:

“Landmark Theatres is proud to announce the opening of Washington DC’s newest movie theatre and lounge, Atlantic Plumbing Cinema. The premiere film will be STEVE JOBS, starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen. It premieres Thursday, October 15 at 8 PM and will be featured on all 6 screens.”

Declaration
804 V Street, NW

Declaration’s website says:

“DECLARATION, Shaw’s most exciting new gourmet pizza eatery, is set to open mid-fall 2015. Our menu will include casual fare, including gourmet artisan pizzas, pasta and fresh, creative salads. As with our restaurants LINCOLN and Teddy & The Bully Bar, we will source ingredients from local growers, ranchers and artisans. The restaurant’s interior design will include interesting touches that introduce fun and little-known facts about the period of American history in which the Declaration of Independence was signed. Located in bustling Shaw, our 1,776 square foot restaurant is being built out this summer and will be within walking distance of the 9:30 Club. Make us your go-to for lunch, before or after a night out with friends or as a destination in and of itself!”

Here are the pizza’s:

“Lewis Morris, San marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, evoo, romano cheese, house made mozzarella

Francis Hopkinson, Jersey sliced tomatoes, basil pesto, reggiano Parmesan

Thomas Jefferson, Shenandoah Valley chicken, apples, gorgonzola, arugula, mozzarella
