Thanks to a reader for the tip on this development. I’m a bit late on this one but folks have frequently asked me if I’d heard any news about this retail space that has been vacant for quite a while. Turns out it is run by a company called Beau Thai LLC.

After doing a google search I found the following from the Bloomingdale blog:

“She is aiming for an early March opening. She is a veteran in the Thai food business (and a relative of the operator of Thai X-Ing on Florida Avenue NW).

She will at first only have take-out service, as her zoning appears to be restricted to that for the time being (take-out was apparently grandfathered-in through prior use of the, very nice, building). She told me that what she really wants to do is a full-fledged sit-down Thai restaurant, however.”

Hopefully it opens soon. Lots of people love Thai X-ing on nearby Florida Avenue, NW so hopefully this space will offer similar quality.

I wasn’t terribly excited about the Cricket grand opening in this location but the Sala Thai liquor license application got me pretty psyched. The Sala Thai spot is located a few storefronts south of Cricket on Georgia Ave.

It actually will take up two spaces:

The occupancy load will be 80 and I was pretty excited to see that they are requesting a summer garden area to seat 16:

When a reader inquired about Thai X-ing last week folks were mentioning other good Thai places that they liked. I noticed Paragon Thai was located at 3507 Connecticut Ave, NW in the strip with the new Weygandt Wines. I know this spot used to be a restaurant previously but I forget the name. Anyone know if Paragon Thai is a new spot? Is it any good?

“Dear PoP,

One of our favorite food spots in town is Thai X-ing at Florida Ave and 5th NW – best Thai food in the city. But over the last month, nobody seems able to get hold of Taw (owner/chef) – nobody answers the kitchen phone or calls back when a message is left, and Taw’s cell is out of service. We’ve not had a chance to go by the restaurant itself, but we’re wondering if anybody knows what’s going on – we would hate to lose this wonderful little gem of a restaurant!

Anybody know what’s up?”

Uh-oh. We judged this restaurant almost exactly a year ago and there were tons of fans. Any regulars know what’s going on?

I gave a sneak peek of Thai Tanic II last week which is located at 3462 14th Street, NW in the retail space of the Allegro apartments. At the time they were hoping to open up last weekend but a bit of delay has pushed the grand opening to Friday, October 2nd. Today! Lots of folks have been sending follow up emails inquiring when the official opening will be. So this is great news! I have to say, I walked by Thursday evening and if you can imagine it looks 100 times better than the sneak peek photos I posted.

Thaitanic II is the newest restaurant coming to Columbia Heights. It is located at 3462 14th Street, NW in the retail space of the Allegro apartments. One of the owners said they hope to open this weekend. They are shooting for Saturday, but it looks like that’ll be tight. But it is possible that they may finish the final touches by Saturday. If not, they’ll surely be open shortly after.

A few more photos after the jump. Any fans of the original Thaitanic out there? (more…)

Thaitanic II located on 14th Street just south of Meridian (in the Allegro building) looks very close to opening. The inside looks quite nice (though my photos came out too dark to post, will return for more soon!).

Holy cow, this is pretty sweet news! It will be located in the nearly completed Allegro apartments located at 3460 14th Street, NW. Many are probably familiar with Thai Tanic in Logan Circle, yeah? here are some pretty good Yelp reviews. Thanks to a reader for sharing the news:

“I had dinner at the Thai Tanic in Logan Circle this week. I asked our waitress about their future Columbia Heights location and she said the plan is for an April opening!!! Of course, this depends on how quickly the developer can wrap up construction at the Allegro, but good news to hear that our hood will be getting some yummy Thai food soon! it will likely have outdoor seating as I heard the space is already zoned to allow for that.”
