Thaitanic II is the newest restaurant coming to Columbia Heights. It is located at 3462 14th Street, NW in the retail space of the Allegro apartments. One of the owners said they hope to open this weekend. They are shooting for Saturday, but it looks like that’ll be tight. But it is possible that they may finish the final touches by Saturday. If not, they’ll surely be open shortly after.

A few more photos after the jump. Any fans of the original Thaitanic out there?

The restaurant looks just as weird (great) as OG Thaitanic. Thaitanic is blazin’ and affordable, can’t wait to eat here.

  • Eli

Thaitanic is amazing…my favorite Thai restaurant in DC!

  • Jay’O

WOW! This is great news – I guess I missed it. I hope their prices are somewhat reasonable (considering the recent fate of Rumberos). It must be a tough time to open a restaurant, but I assume they worked out a business plan that takes the economy and local buying power in the neighborhood.

In any case, if the price is right (vegetarian Pad Thai & Lad Nar entrees $8.99 and below) will make us regulars!

Looks great, cant wait to try it out.

  • 14th n’ otis

Yeaah!!! Practically across the street. Sala Thai will deliver up here but I prefer Thaitanic’s food so happy they are finally opening.

  • JodiHeights

    great update!

    agree with jay’o… i will be a regular – if the price…is…right.
i’ve been dying to have a good thai place within walking distance!

  • New Hampy

personally i find it a bit over the top, but who cares if the food is good. just glad to see the food options expanding in ch1

  • Andy

PoP – have you confirmed it’s actually opening?

I mean these look like “pictures of a thai restaurant” or whatever but between rays the steaks and that rumberos debacle I have serious questions about PoP credibility on restaurant “comings and goings.”

  • GforGood

Looks great and can’t wait to get my pad thai (yeah, I am a bit boring, I promise to venture out a bit) fix there! This is virtually guaranteed to be more succesful than Rumberos ever was.

Andy, give it a rest, will ya.. 😉

  • hammocksrus

Was a fan of the original until getting food poisoning there the night before flying out of town. Not good times.

  • Christ, Andy, freeze-dry that “credibility” talk until he runs for pope or something.

yes. big fan of the original ThaiTanic.
Having a decent panang within easy walkies makes happy-happy.

  • Interior looks highly similar to ThaiTanic 1. Apparently ownership will continue to go with what has worked in the past. I wonder if that will include all the (intentional (?)) misspellings of the daily specials.

  • New2CH

    Looks awesome, can’t wait!

So happy to finally have Thai nearby that will deliver to me!!! And they have great Drunken Noodles.

  • Bright, Shiny Things

In Thailand, the general way of thinking is that the brighter, the shinier, the better. Seriously its a very glittery, vibrant country (some might even say tacky, but not me). So the decor of this spot (and the original) seems about right to me.

  • Love love love Thaitanic the original. Such good food – my favorite Thai place in a reasonable proximity.

But, because I don’t want to have to wait too long for my delicious food – THIS PLACE SUCKS DO NOT GO THERE ON OPENING NIGHT (because I’ll be there with every single person I know…).

  • Looks like it will be a fun place! Hopefully some delicious and affordable entrees matched with some cheap happy hours will make this place a fixture in the area.

Thaitanic is good. Thai X-ing is hands down some of the best authentic Thai food in the country–only a couple of places in NYC and LA are on the same level at sub-$10 per plate prices. On the other hand, if you don’t like having to call ahead/wait 3-4 hours for your food, Thaitanic is probably the better bet.

  • Heather

Wow, maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but I feel like this was just announced and now it’s opening already? I’m so used to hearing “Chipotle is coming” and then waiting 1-2 years. I’m up for some curry, yum.

  • grumpy

yay! I feel as if this was announced ages ago and I’m glad they decided to go through with opening the second location!

    its about time!

  • JRock

Food is okay, but it used to be better a few years ago.
