About a week ago we learned that Rita’s Custard and Italian Ice was closing in the Columbia Heights Plaza and possibly opening up across the street. Well, I’ve just learned from an awesome new tipster who has been very accurate so far what is going into the spot – “Fro-Yo”.

Fro-Yo currently has two locations in Chevy Chase and Metro Center. The tipster says they should be open by Summer. As a recent fan of frozen yogurt I think that is an awesome addition to the plaza. You guys think a frozen yogurt spot will do well there?

Seems like we’ve been hearing a lot of scuttlebutt about buildings in Columbia Heights, first the vacant one at 11th and Monroe then the other vacant one at 11th and Park and now this one at 1346 Park Road, NW (next to the Dry Cleaners and across the street from the Giant).

A reader writes that bids are due today for the 24 unit building and that: “They are selling it as a total rehab and upgrade for condo conversion.”

More info as it becomes available.

The photo above is from the corner of 11th and Monroe Streets, NW (across from the park and CH Coffee). This building has quite a sordid history. Bottom line is that it has been vacant for years. A reader says they have heard the building has been sold. I checked in with some connected folks in the neighborhood and they have heard the same thing. Unfortunately the original tip I received only contained a first name so I haven’t been able to confirm this rumor as fact. If it does turn out to be true this will be a tremendous development for the neighborhood.

1238 H Street, NE

As always, on a scuttlebutt post it is not confirmed but I believe this news has a high likelihood to be accurate. In other words I didn’t just hear this from a random lady at the grocery store… One more caveat is that I’m not exactly sure that this is the correct building. It could be another one from the 1200 block of H Street, NE. So here’s exactly what I heard – the owner of the bar Wisdom (which incidentally we just checked out a couple of weeks ago) has purchased a property next to Granville Moore’s located at 1238 H Street, NE. I hear that he is going to lease out the lower level to Granville Moore’s and the top level will host a bar, presumably similar to the style of Wisdom.

Again I’m not sure if this means The Martini Lounge will no longer exist or if it is a different building. I promise to update with more info as it becomes available. But this is the fun of running a blog – I can share with you interesting rumors as I hear them. I do believe this rumor will turn out to be true but like all scuttlebutt you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Last week a commenter mentioned that they were really looking forward to the coffee shop going in at 3rd and P Streets, NW. I have to admit I had never heard of that possibility. So I walked by the area last weekend and spoke to a few neighbors. They told me that they had read online that it was either going to become a coffee shop or wine store with a Georgian community center on the second floor. I finally found where they read that – on the Bates Area Civic Association Web site. From August:

“Mamuka Tsereteli spoke on his plans as owner of the commercial property at the NW corner of 3rd and P St NW. The first floor is zoned for commercial use and second floor for residential. He envisions a wine store or market store. He said he is renovating the property currently, which should be complete in the next two months. He said his intentions were to use the space upstairs to hold cultural events related to the country of Georgia, like art shows, musical performances.

He said he came to hear from the community what they would like in the space downstairs. Ultimately, he will be leasing the space out to another business.”

The neighbors I spoke with said they’d much prefer a coffee shop to a wine shop but are excited about the progress on the building. It is looking good. I’ll be sure to update as more info becomes available.

Last week we learned that Vegetate was closing at 1414 9th Street, NW. Immediately folks from all different neighborhoods were hoping to lure Vegetate to their part of town. It’s understandable as they have tons of fans. Well, I heard from a very reliable source that the owners were spotted touring the new building at 11th and Park Road, NW on Monday. I’m sure they’ll be touring a number of spots but it’s exciting that they’re considering this section of 11th Street. Remember this is the spot where the bar/restaurant Meridian Pint will take the basement and first floor (I hear that the bar is close to being built!). Vegetate would presumably take over the second floor making this building absolutely amazing.

So what do you guys think – would Vegetate be a good fit for this section of 11th Street?

Consider the following purely scuttlebutt, not sure if others have heard the same, but I thought it was worth sharing. I was at an event where I heard that Results, located at 1612 U St NW, will be moving in 2011. The person who knew the details said that Results would be replaced by a very high-end gym possibly owned by a Salon. I’m just curious if anyone else has heard this rumor?

For a while this Results was going to move into the new View 14 building at 14th and Florida but that is no longer in the works.

Ever since Circle Boutique closed their doors at 1736 14th Street, NW I’ve been wondering what may go into that spot. Now keep in mind, whenever I use scuttlebutt in the title, it is just that, scuttlebutt. Rumor. Hearsay.  I did hear it from a very reliable source but I don’t believe anything is in stone at the moment.

Nevertheless, I’m pretty excited about this possibility. I’m hearing that Crepes-a-Go-Go may open up another location at this spot. They currently have a store at 2122 P Street, NW. You can see their menu here. Any fans? Think a crepe spot will work for this location on 14th near Logan Circle?

I’ve been consistently getting emails about what possible retail is going into the new Solea building and View 14 building located at 14th and Florida Ave., NW. These are just rumors and not terrible exciting but I hear Solea is slated to get a new sign store and possibly will house a non profit.

Across the street at View 14 I heard some rumors of a gym going in but I hear that plan has stalled. Other than that I’ve heard of no deals signed yet. Anyone else hear any rumors?
