3110 Mt Pleasant Street, NW

I’m still a little staggered from Dos Gringos closing so wanted to share a bit of positive news from Mount Pleasant via the magnificent Martha Dear:

“THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR OUTDOOR SEATING LATELY. WE ARE KEEPING IT. IT IS COSTLY. IT WILL SHRINK IN SIZE. THE PROCESS WAS EVERYTHING BUT EASY.

TO SUPPORT ALL THIS, WE ARE LAUNCHING A CURATED OUTDOOR MARKET EVERY OTHER SATURDAY THROUGH THE END OF SEPTEMBER. MAY 16TH WILL BE OUR FIRST MARKET DAY: 11AM – 2PM. (more…)

Update from AlertDC regarding the flyover at the White House (said to be for King Charles’ visit):

“The US Military will conduct an Aircraft Flyover in the NCR over the White House on Tuesday, April 28, at approximately 11:12AM.”

AND

“A ceremonial cannon salute will take place this morning, April, 28, 2026, on the Ellipse Grounds between 10:35AM and 10:45AM. The salute will consist of 21 (LOUD) rounds.”

TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW because they’re going to want to know what’s up when this goes down…

From WMATA:

“On Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Stadium-Armory and Downtown Largo on the Blue and Silver lines.

Rail service will be suspended at Benning Rd., Capitol Heights, Addison Rd., Morgan Blvd., and Downtown Largo. Crews will be working on air blown fiber installation. This installation method facilitates faster completion of the work, minimizing the need for longer station closures.

I think we haven’t had the real Tonkatsu in Washington DC until last month; the Tonkatsu at Katsu Kyu is fried in lard, which makes the deep flavor. Their Tonkatsu (I tried Loin) is thick, unlike thin slices you usually find in restaurants. Cooking thick meat perfectly requires knowledge and experience. (more…)
