“Dear PoPville,

I fist noticed this street front gallery just north of K street on Connecticut ave. Based in its look, I figured it was an art gallery (in absurdly expensive space). On closer inspection, it’s a info center for some wealthy developer’s proposal to build a parking lot under the national mall. I googled it, and we website seems to be as much about him as it is about the project.

Serious, or crazy rich guy with too much money?”

National Mall Underground’s website says:

“The National Mall Underground project solves the needs of the public as well as federal and District of Columbia planners by consolidating in one structure several functions: car and tour bus parking, visitor services, a flood reservoir, and irrigation cisterns, while providing new turf grass as the “green roof.” During heavy storm events, buses and cars will be removed from the two lower parking levels and flood waters will be pumped here for temporary storage. The location between the Smithsonian Castle and the Museum of Natural History, and between the 9th Street and 12th Street tunnels under the Mall, is centrally located near the Metro Smithsonian stop and Capital Bikeshare locations.”

“Dear PoPville,

I found this angle park job hilarious. 11th St NW between K and L. Blocking the bike lane. DC plates and all…smh”

Anyone know if this is a remnant of church parking allowed to angle park Sunday mornings in some spots? Or is this just a ridiculous parking job?

“Dear PoPville,

Not sure what can be done, but maybe someone knows the owner of this Toyota Corolla [Gold color with license plate starting DA] on Hobart St NW and can warn the owner. They are parked in an illegal spot and have received at least 6 or 7 $50 tickets!”

Kilbourne Place

“Dear PoPville,

DDOT not only removed the bogus arrowhead from that no-parking sign, they installed a sign below it indicating that parking to the right of the sign is explicitly legal. This has been going on, it is said, for a year. A bit of publicity via PoP did the job, and nearby residents are pleased to have that legal parking space back.

It should be noted (for those commenters who were sure that the tickets were written because of a modest intrusion into that no-parking zone) that the ticket code for parking within 25 feet of a stop sign is P050, but the tickets written for parking at this spot have designated P269, a vague “No Standing Anytime” code that does not correspond to any pertinent DC Municipal Regulation. That is, even the ticket writers couldn’t tell what the actual violation of law was.

Now, can the people who paid $50 fines for parking here get their money back?”

DDOT proposes to PAVE OVER the safety Service Lane in Cleveland Park:

Honestly, folks, this issue has been abundantly addressed and firmly rejected in the past by the neighbors, merchants, visitors and everyone who values safety from high-speed Conn Ave.

The proponents know well that elderly, disabled, infants, toddlers, and general citizens, be they CP residents or visitors, are safer, at less risk, with less anxiety and fear, and overall more conveniently served by this virtually essential Service Lane.

Safer: because we don’t have to exit a car adjacent to fast moving Connecticut Ave traffic, and likewise at less risk both on foot or in a car because while in the service lane we are protected by the mini-island, small as it is, but so advantageous. Has anyone tried to unload a wheelchair bound passenger from a car at the outside curb lane on Connecticut Ave, with traffic going by? And what about the driver’s safety just opening the door?

More conveniently served: because with nearly 30 parking spaces turning over regularly during the day and evening, and especially as the only source of parking during Rush Hours, what are the proponents of TOTAL PAVE OVER proposing we do if we choose to patronize the merchants during those hours?
