Back in early August we noted that Chupacabra had applied for a liquor license and was looking to add outdoor seating to their small space off H Street, NE. They got it. And added a mural too:

1622 14th Street, NW
A few weeks ago we noted that the Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar coming to the former BodySmith Gym space next to Miss Pixie’s was looking awesome. And now it’s ready to open. The place looks incredible. I stopped by yesterday while staff was being trained and was told they would quietly open up one day this week.
They’ve added an incredible new outdoor dining area:

Speaking of the Coupe. Back in August we learned that they were looking to add a sidewalk cafe along 11th Street. They got it:

“Kapnos, Mike Isabella’s young 14th Street Greek restaurant is beginning brunch service this week. Brunch will be served Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-3pm and feature Greek-influenced takes on morning classics like Baklava French Toast and Spit Roasted Chicken and Waffles. The full menu is available here.
In addition to the new brunch menu, Kapnos has recently opened its patio. The al-fresco space located along W Street adds over three dozen seats to the restaurant.”
1348 H Street, NE
Last week we learned Red Rocks would have a grand opening for their new H Street location on Sept. 4th. In June we took a preview tour and had a good idea that the largest restaurant on H Street was gonna be pretty sweet. Absolutely 100% confirmed. Last night they soft opened with a friends and family party – have a look at the finished space and especially the retractable roof:

3415 11th Street, NW
11th Street is about to get some more outdoor dining options. The Coupe at the corner of 11th and Monroe St, NW is looking to add a 50 sidewalk cafe according to a liquor license amendment. Though The Coupe is open 24 hours a day the sidewalk cafe could only be open:
Sunday through Thursday 10 am – 11 pm and Friday and Saturday 10 am -1 am.

Back in June we took a preview tour of the huge Red Rocks coming to 1348 H St, NE. After final solving some permitting issues – they’re set for their grand opening on September 4th. Have a look at the preview to get a taste of how awesome the huge space is gonna be.

When the local firm GrizForm Design Architects was invited by the owners of Tonic to come and revamp their outdoor space, the first consideration was overall design. “We are immediately sensitive to movement and flow of people,” said Brooke Loewen. “Flow and function drive everything that follow.”
With this in mind, the designers created a contemporary beer garden in the middle of Foggy Bottom. It was envisioned as the perfect spot for leisure and study sessions during the summer day.
When the bar and restaurant are closed, students from neighboring George Washington University will spread out over the custom designed picnic tables built from light white oak and brightened with powdered metal legs in lively papaya.
Lunchtime would see a mix of local business workers, students, and neighbors. And at nightfall, the expansive outdoor space could take on a biergarten element. The bars, built from mahogany and topped with light colored granite, are cleverly built on industrial casters and can slide, as needed, to create a free form bar. (more…)

Nice to potentially see some more patio dining for Adams Morgan. Little Fountain Cafe has long been one of the best “hidden gems” in the district. You can see their menu here.
