“Dear PoPville,

Apparently, some creep has been filming women on the Metro and posting the videos on a porn site. This seems like the sort of thing that people in the PoPville community (and, the larger DC community) probably ought to know about; but, I don’t have any information (or any way to get information) about the person doing it. I know there have been previous posts in the forums (under Public Safety) about creeps photographic women in the Metro system.

The link is to the profile page of the guy (at least, I assume it’s a guy since the profile claims it is) who posted the videos. XHamster, in case you haven’t heard of it, is basically a YouTube clone for porn. So, the content on the site is posted by users. I ran across one of these videos when it popped up in a totally unrelated search; and, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it were it not for the distinctive colors of Metro seats. I watched enough to confirm that it definitely was Metro, not some other similar appearing system – the map is a dead giveaway; and, it showed the Silver Line, meaning that the video is recent – and clicked through to the user who posted it. I figured either it was posted by the person who took the video or someone who found it elsewhere online. If the latter, there’s not so much that could be done; but, as it turns out, this person has like a dozen videos that are easily identifiable as filmed on Metro trains and, I think, none from anywhere else. So, this guy is probably the person who filmed them.

Anyway, they appear to be smartphone videos of young women – usually wearing shorts or skirts – who are unaware that they are being filmed, often taken from low angle. Not technically explicit – and, due to the obnoxious rulings earlier this fall in Texas and DC, almost certainly not illegal, unfortunately – but, certainly creepy. To be clear, I have no fundamental issue with pornography (obviously); but, that’s premised on the consent of anyone being filmed, which clearly seems to be lacking here.”

From WMATA:

“On January 5, Metro contractors will begin a major capital project to install six new escalators at Woodley Park Station. The project is part of Metro’s plan to replace more than 130 of the system’s oldest escalators to improve reliability.

With a vertical rise of 102 feet, the entrance escalators at Woodley Park are the longest in the District of Columbia and the third longest on the Metrorail system (behind Wheaton and Bethesda). The current escalators entered service when the station opened in 1981.

Woodley Park Station’s entrance is served by a total of six escalators, three short units and three long units.

During the project, Metro’s contractor, KONE, will take two escalators out of service at a time – one short and one long. Each pair of escalators will require approximately 46 weeks for preparation, demolition and removal of the existing escalators, construction work, installation of the new escalators, testing and inspections.

The remaining four escalators will remain available for customer use.”

“I lost my engagement thing this morning 12/19 in NW DC on my way to work. I took the 43 or L2 bus from Columbia road and Mintwood place to Farragut north and then took the red line from Farragut north to judiciary square and realized it was missing. It’s my fiancés family heirloom and it means so much to me and I’m desperate to find it! If anyone has any information please contact me and a reward will be offered.”

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“Transferring at Federal Center SW?? From atleast Crystal City and Pentagon City heading into the District, Metro DC printed and displayed huge incorrect station/transfer point maps for the Orange/Blue/silver line.”

Ed. Note: The proper transfer point from blue/orange to green/yellow is at L’Enfant Plaza. Fotten Totten remains my favorite metro signage error.

From AlertDC:

“DC Water reports a water main break at 12th and F Streets NW. Due to the break 12th St. between E and F Streets is expected to be closed 10 to 12 hours while repairs are being made. From WMATA:

“Metrorail service on the Silver, Orange and Blue lines is suspended in both directions between Farragut West and L’Enfant Plaza due to a water main break at 12th and F Streets, NW. Water has entered Metro Center Station and flooded lower level tracks.

DC Water has advised that the source of the water has been turned off. Metro is currently working to pump out the water off of the tracks. There is no estimated time of service restoration.

Limited shuttle bus service will operate between Farragut West and L’Enfant Plaza. However, bus service will not be able to replicate the capacity of the rail system. Riders should consider alternate travel options (e.g. Red, Yellow or Green lines) and expect significant delays on the Silver, Orange and Blue lines.

WMATA: “This photo shows water above the rail earlier this morning at Federal Triangle. All back to normal now.”

As of 8:40 a.m., Metro is in the process of restoring normal rail service on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines following an earlier water main break in the area of Metro Center. Riders should expect residual delays in both directions as trains resume normal operations.

Earlier, service on the three lines had been suspended between L’Enfant Plaza and Farragut West due to flooding on the tracks. The water main break occurred outside Metro Center in the area of 12th and F streets, NW.

Red, Yellow and Green line trains continue to operate normally.

WMATA: “Two more pics from Federal Triangle earlier.”

Anyone know if surge pricing was in effect?
