“Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of November 7-9 with service adjustments on two of Metro’s six rail lines beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through closing Sunday.

“Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of October 31-November 2 with service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. Friday through closing Sunday.

This weekend, Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow and Green line trains will operate every 20 minutes, rather than every 12 minutes. Red Line trains will operate every 15 minutes with additional trains providing service every 8-10 minutes between Van Ness and NoMa-Gallaudet during daytime hours.

Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 2. At that time, clocks will “fall back” to 1 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time). Metrorail will remain open until its normal closing time of 3 a.m. “new time” (Eastern Standard Time).

Red Line
Trains every 8-15 minutes

Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:

Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 15 minutes
Between Van Ness & NoMa-Gallaudet: every 8-10 minutes Saturday and Sunday from 9AM-9PM only

Red Line trains will operate every 24 minutes with additional trains providing service about every 12 minutes between Medical Center and NoMa-Gallaudet from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Early Opening Sunday for Marine Corps Marathon
Metrorail will open two hours early, at 5 a.m., on Sunday, October 26, for customers traveling to the Marine Corps Marathon. The closest Metro stop to the start of the race is Pentagon on the Blue and Yellow lines. Riders may want to consider using Pentagon City as an alternate station due to potential crowding at Pentagon.

Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend (10PM Fri – Closing Sun):

Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 24 minutes
Between Medical Center & NoMa-Gallaudet: every 12 minutes Saturday and Sunday from 9AM-9PM only

Work Performed: Track, rail tie, insulator renewal & joint elimination between Medical Center & Grosvenor and Takoma & Forest Glen.

Orange Line
Regular weekend service EXCEPT on Saturday at Landover & New Carrollton only

On Saturday, Orange Line trains will operate:

Between Cheverly and Vienna at regular Saturday intervals (every 12 minutes 9AM-9PM)
At Landover and New Carrollton only, trains will arrive and depart every 20-25 minutes between 9AM-9PM

On Sunday, Orange Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals.

Blue Line
Regular weekend service; extra trains on Sunday

Green Line
Regular weekend service EXCEPT at Greenbelt Station on Saturday and Sunday (Buses replace trains at Greenbelt only)

On Saturday and Sunday, free shuttle buses will replace Green Line trains between Greenbelt and College Park. Riders using shuttle bus service should allow 15 minutes additional travel time.

Green Line trains will operate at normal weekend intervals between College Park and Branch Ave.

“The Metropolitan Police Department and US Park Police wish to advise the public and members of the media of the following street closings in conjunction with the Marine Corps Marathon. These events are scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2014.

This event is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2014. The race begins at 8:00 am in Arlington, Virginia, and then crosses the Potomac River into the District of Columbia. The following streets along the race route will be closed beginning at 4:00 am and are expected to re-open by 1:00 pm (more…)

“Transit Police seek to identify persons of interest in indecent exposure investigations

Metro Transit Police are asking for the public’s assistance to identify four persons of interest involving indecent exposure incidents on the Metrorail system.

The incidents appear to be unrelated. However, Metro Transit Police have identified an increase in indecent exposure reports in the past two months.

“Indecent exposure cases can be a gateway crime to more serious sexual misconduct, which is why we have placed a priority on advancing these investigations,” said Metro Transit Police Chief Ron Pavlik. “We are absolutely committed to keeping Metro a safe space for all riders.”

Anyone with information about the identity of any individual pictured below should call Metro Transit Police at (202) 962-2121 and reference the appropriate case number. Tips can also be sent via text message to MyMTPD (696873).

“On Saturday, October 18, 2014, the 2014 Howard University Homecoming Parade will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration:

The staging area time will be 7:00 am in front of Johnson Administration Building (2400 6th Street NW) on the campus of Howard University. The parade start time will be 10:00 am and will conclude approximately at 12:30 pm at which time the roadways will re-open to traffic.

“Metro’s Riders’ Advisory Council is seeking candidates to fill several available positions on the volunteer council.  Positions are available for residents in the District of Columbia, Arlington County, Fairfax County and Prince George’s County. In addition, there is one at-large position available that could be filled by a resident of any jurisdiction served by Metro.

The 21-member council is made up of six individuals each from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, two at-large members and the Chairman of Metro’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Council advises the agency’s Board of Directors on issues affecting Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess service. It was created in December 2005 to improve interation with riders.

Individuals on the Riders’ Advisory Council represent a cross-section of Metro’s riders from around the region. The Council includes people with different riding patterns, people who use Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess, transit-dependent people, people with disabilities, people who travel short distances and others who travel long distances.

Anyone interested in applying should complete the online form. Applications are also available at Metro sales offices at Metro Center Station, Anacostia Station, Pentagon Transit Center and Metro Headquarters (600 Fifth St NW).

Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014. Metro’s Board of Directors will appoint the final candidates at its December meeting.

Metro employees, contractors or elected officials are not eligible to apply. All positions are unpaid.
