Amazing. On November 9th we learned that:

“an armed robbery occurred in the 1600 block of Franklin Street, NE at approximately 7pm on the evening of November 9th. The victim of the robbery was exiting his vehicle when he was approached by a man with a gun who took several items of value from the victim. After obtaining the items the suspect attempted to run to an awaiting vehicle, but the victim’s dog, who was in the car at the time of the robbery, jumped from the vehicle and attacked the robber. A second suspect waiting in the car fired a single shot, striking the dog.”

At that time all we knew as that the owner took the dog to an animal hospital for treatment of its injuries. I am happy to report that MPD has now let me know that “the dog is alive. He lost his eye but is now back with his owner.” It’s not much but I know many, myself included, were eager to learn how the hero dog was doing. That s/he is alive and back home is great news. Thanks to all for messaging me their concerns for the pup.

“Anyone with information related to this crime is encouraged to call MPD at 202-727-9099, or text the information to 5-0-4-1-1.”

Thanks to Kelsey for sending:

“Since we haven’t had one in a bit – I thought I’d submit one. No picture but, while I was in Whole Foods, a woman was attempting to patiently wait out her toddler’s complete meltdown. It went on for pretty much the entire time I was in the store, screams, tears, lying in the ground. Her mom managed to get into check out with the toddler still screaming. Beyond the looks she was getting and the under the breath remarks, one woman was audacious enough to let her know that this wasn’t normal behavior and her child was probably autistic. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Saw this yesterday in Meridian Hill Park. This guy is literally going all around the park with hedge shears cutting all the trees/bushes that are overgrown. This guy is not waiting on the park service to do it’s job.”

Awesome. Now how are his plumbing skills?

Should you spot a quiet act of heroism  please send an email with a brief description and the neighborhood where it was witnessed to [email protected].

“Dear PoPville,

About 4:45 Friday afternoon I was riding the bus eastbound. At a stop in Mt. Pleasant about 10 Highschool kids (another person already on the bus later informed the officers who arrived later they went to Wilson but who knows) entered the bus from the back entrance (not paying) pushing passed people trying to get on. Their target was another student, a young lady, sitting with her friend in the back. It was clear from the body language and the egging on of the other students getting on that their plan was to jump this girl either on the bus, or ride it till she had to get off and do it then.

At this point two older women who were seated near the girl in the back jumped up to shield her and began loudly accosting the girls and boys who had got on – while the bus driver stopped the bus and went to flag down a nearby police car. While it took some minutes for the cops to arrive and kick the kids off, during this whole time these women stood up to the mob with various admonishments and threats of their own (such as “Why – I will smack you so hard you’ll call your mama and when she comes down Ill smack her for raising you like this.”) (more…)

Danielle wrote yesterday:

“I’ve sent an email to Wawa about their oversight of the DC store in their free coffee promotion for all mid-Atlantic stores (MD and VA are included!)”

And a few hours later:

“I have heard back and Wawa has corrected this issue! Their response is below:

Have no fear… DC is definitely included in the free coffee celebration on Sunday! It was a mistake leaving it out of the release and I’ve updated and replaced it. thank you for reaching out and enjoy the big game!”

So props to Danielle, and props to Wawa for the quick fix!!
