“Steaks and other fine foods”. Too good. Too good.

Back in September we spoke about Fusion. I’m happy to report that they have now opened. As you can see from the photo above they are located at 4815 Georgia Avenue (two storefronts from Moroni’s excellent pizza.) I spoke briefly with the owner, Barry, who described the food as “refined Indian”. The restaurant will seat upto 50 people and will feature a full bar. Though, make no mistake this spot is most definitely a proper restaurant. Barry had previously worked in managerial positions in the very well respected Indian Restaurants – Rasika and Bombay Club. I believe that bodes very well for us. I happen to be a big fan of the Bombay Club. It’s exciting to potentially get a spot of the same caliber up in Petworth. I asked Barry, 35, how he decided on this particular location and he explained it simply – “I live around the corner”. In addition to serving lunch and dinner (when they get their liquor license) Sundays will feature a three course brunch.
I’m especially excited about this restaurant because Barry exhibited such enthusiasm for the neighborhood. He also said on a number of occasions that he is “in it for the long haul”. And it was very nice to hear indeed. Be sure to check them out.

A classic noted by many located on Georgia Avenue near Looking Glass Lounge. Sadly, it has been closed for years.

“Things you don’t need…on Georgia Ave”. But I’m going to disagree. Who doesn’t need the occasional beanpie?

I can’t believe I missed this one in my own backyard! I find this one to be absolutely mesmerizing. It’s located at Georgia Ave. and Quincy. Check out some more views after the jump. (more…)

Any fans of Everlasting Life super market and health complex located at 2928 Georgia Ave? Sounds pretty interesting. The sign says it is community owned and not for profit. Do you have to pay a membership fee? How are the prices in general?
I’m very interested in this question which comes from a reader:
“Can you give us an update on the street car initiative for Georgia Avenue? Even though there are two metros in close proximity, even on this very site have been complaining that the metros are too far away. So it’d be really great for the people and businesses of Georgia Avenue, columbia Heights, Parkview and/or Pleasant Plains to get some more public transpo options. Can you let us know how we can mobilize and push this through?”
On a related transit note a reader also writes:
“Greater Greater Washington writes about an express circulator-type bus line that would center in Columbia Heights, branching west to its next stop in Adams Morgan, then again in Woodley Park, and branching south bound down 14th street, stopping at U St, then at Logan Circle, then finally at McPhearson Square. Jim Graham brought it up in a meeting last night for discussion.”
So does anyone know the status of the street car initiative? If a street were to come to Georgia Ave, would you be likely to use it or would you stick with metro/buses?

Greatest photo I’ve seen. A bit weather damaged but located with great pride outside a shop on Georgia Ave. (Presumably the guy on the right is the store’s proprietor.)

Maybe in the day it’s ok. But this is outside a gas station on the corner of Georgia and Park. I feel like this is a mugging just waiting to happen.

Located at 2608 Georgia Ave, ShowOff Apparel, is one of the coolest spots in town. I spoke with head artist, Edmund “VJ” Sanyeneh and his associate Joseph. They are unbelievably cool artists. They paint old sneakers, murals, clothes, stools, trucks, you name it. You can bring in an old pair of sneakers and they’ll paint them for $60 (photos after the jump). They have been at this location for around a year and were recently featured on local NBC news. In addition to the cool wares, the store itself is surrounded by incredibly painted murals. This is a store that you should really check out simply to appreciate the art. Lots of photos after the jump. (more…)
