2106 Vermont Ave, NW

Update thanks to Laura for sending from SQUARE 134 ARCHITECTS:

“After 12 years of serving the local community of the U Street corridor, the bar at 2106 Vermont Ave NW will be replaced with a mixed-use development to match the fast-growing density of the area. The massing of the building is a result of creating a balance between the massive developments along Florida Ave and the smaller scale buildings on the block. The proposed building will consist of one retail space and nine residential units. Each unit will consist of four to six bedrooms and structured for communal living. Each resident will have their own private space and be a part of a communal living space within their unit. In addition to that, the building will have an amenity space on the rooftop to serve the entire building.”

Thanks to Terry for passing on from Behnke Nurseries:

“As I look out over the garden center, it seems like a Spring season like all the others through our 89 year history. I see a nursery full of beautiful plants and fine staff, some of whom have worked here most their lives, and I’m so proud to be a part of this wonderful organization.

But with great sadness, I must tell you that this 2019 Spring season will be our last. (more…)

1700 17th Street, NW

Back in late December we reported that the longtime 17th Street tenant Steam Cafe was for sale. Apparently it sold. From the Dupont listserv:

“Just noticed today that Steam had closed. I’m sorry to see it go but I hope the owner had a nice payday. The new place will be an Indian kabob place and will open by the summer.”

Updates as we learn more.
