“District first responders will participate in a multi-location, full scale emergency preparedness exercise on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The exercise, which is unrelated to any recent events, was planned in collaboration with CSX, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Center, and the American Red Cross, over the course of several months. It will simulate a train collision with a vehicle that causes a train derailment and a hazardous chemical spill. As part of the exercise, the District will also be testing our ability to shelter the residents of a neighborhood that could be affected by the hazardous chemical spill.

Police Week sure is annoying. [this year’s official NPW dates are Sunday, May 15, 2016 through Saturday, May 21, 2016]
MPD is great and works with our neighborhood on a lot of difficult issues even when some of their bosses downtown can’t get their heads out of their butts. But even MPD must be annoyed at the knuckleheads our Cities’ Finest choose to send to Police Week. I feel bad for Chief Lanier; at least this time, it’s not her fault.
I wouldn’t mind a cathartic “Out of Town Police Behaving Badly During Police Week” PoPville photo contest. As usual, there will be plenty of opportunities to see it this week.”

About 6 pm, I was walking up 11th Street NW. At Girard Street, I witnessed a multi-car accident (at least four moving vehicles involved, some parked cars hit, a biker nearly hit, etc.) This was kind of scary, especially because one of the vehicle’s airbags deployed, a woman got out of that vehicle and was yelling, “please come help, I have baby and my daughter inside, please help [add understandable panic here].” (more…)
