The restaurant will have 20 seats in the coffee area where baristas will serve a variety of specialty coffees and teas as well as pastries. The coffee house will feature coffees made from freshly roasted Ethiopian coffee beans. The 30-seat dining room is a comfortable spot to enjoy classic Ethiopian dishes served with injera in traditional fashion, or wrapped, with bread or rice for those who wish to use utensils. I’ve been getting a number of emails and tweets asking about LeTena, the “fast casual Ethiopian restaurant” coming to the former Senor Chicken space in Columbia Heights. Happy to share that work on the buildout has finally started so standby for an opening date as they make progress:

In other sorta scuttlebutt confirmation – New Columbia Heights kinda confirms our scuttlebutt from over the summer:

“A friend was eating at a Chick-Fil-A in Crystal City and asked the owner/operator about rumors that a location open in DC. The owner said “you heard correct,” that there would be a Chick-Fil-A at 3100 14th Street NW.”

Back in July we heard Chick Fil A was coming to the former Lime Fresh space which closed back in Dec. 2013. Stay tuned for coming soon signage (protests?) and an opening date.

@mcbyrne tweeted us while we were gone last week:

“NO NO NO NO NO NO! Keep @GAP Outlet out of Columbia Heights. We are not the suburbs. @PoPville”

From Washington Business Journal’s building permit round up:

“3100 14th St. NW: Construction and tenant layout of a new retail clothing store, Gap Factory Store, at DC USA in Columbia Heights. It will be the first tenant to occupy the space (Unit 116).”

This week’s prime scuttlebutt is likely to excite half and infuriate the other half. Ed. Note: It seems that most of the Columbia Heights/14th Street scuttlebutt I post has a similar division. Back in Dec. 2013 we learned that Lime Fresh abruptly closed their DC USA location in Columbia Heights (they still have a spot open in Chinatown.) Since the closure, lots of folks have been wondering who will take over the 14th Street space by Target. I’ve heard that a Chick Fil A is strongly considering coming to the space. Nothing in stone yet but I’m hearing it’s a very good possibility. Stay tuned.

Yesterday we noted google street view’s awesome historical photos that go back to 2007. I was searching the PoPville flickr pool earlier today looking for a vacant lot and stumbled across these wild photos from rockcreek. We’ve seen this site before but it’s truly amazing to remember what parts of Columbia Heights looked like in 2005. For the photo below:
