“Dear PoP,

Some friends and I are renting a cabin over President’s Day weekend and each of us will be responsible for preparing a meal. Since I’m not much of a chef, a dear friend of mine offered to prepare a meal on my behalf, but I’d still like to contribute something to the weekend’s food festivities. After all, food is a big part of a weekend with no internet service, no cable television and few diversions.

I’m thinking of holding a cheese and beer tasting, since I’ll be in the midst of beer lovers. I’ve done some online research and am feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the information, since I’m neither a beer or cheese buff. Does anyone out there have advice on specific pairings that I can find locally? Should I choose beers that I know this crowd will like and then pair them with cheese or the other way around? Are there shops in the area that may be able to help? Restaurants that offer such pairings that I could check out beforehand?”

I know there are lots of beer lovers out in PoPville so I’m equally eager to hear your suggestions as I also love cheese…

This was a pretty quick turn around since the coming soon signs went up in October. Sunday evening there was a soft opening and I was able to snap some photos.

In addition to wine they will also be offering cured meats and cheeses:

And very soon they will also be offering sandwiches. You’ll be able to find more information on their Web site here soon. They’ll be open Mon. – Thurs. 11am – 9pm; Fri. 11am – 10pm; Sat. 10am – 10pm; and Sun. 10am – 8pm. More photos after the jump. (more…)

Cowgirl Creamery located at 919 F Street, NW is the greatest spot for cheese in DC. Like many Americans I am a huge fan of cheese. It sounds funny writing it but it’s true. Leave me with lox, bagels and cheeses and I could live for years. I’m still looking for a good lox spot but I need search no further for my new cheese spot. I can hardly believe it but this spot in DC has been open for two years now. I remember hearing from folks out in California, where the store originated, that this place was the bomb. I am embarrassed to admit that I only recently discovered it. So if you haven’t stopped by yet, delay no longer you won’t disappointed. Not only do they have dozens of cheeses but they also have wine, breads, olive oil, apple butter and sandwiches that are so popular that they often sell out. To check out all the cheeses they have an amazing library on their Web site. I was told the cheeses come from small farms all over the US and Europe. As always the pictures can do far more justice than I can write. All I can say is if you are a cheese lover it is well worth a journey downtown to check out this shop.  Lots of photos after the jump.
