What’s the word on their dinner menu?

“Dear PoP,

Do you know what’s going on with Chatman’s D’Vine Bakery on 9th street by the Convention Center? It seems to be pretty much always closed recently, except for a few rare and random times when I’ve seen someone in there behind the counter. Are they going out of business?”

I’m happy to report that I had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich on Saturday afternoon. Though in hindsight I probably should have taken advantage of the breakfast all day on Saturday:

I asked the guy working the counter if they were reducing hours at all and he looked at me like I was crazy. According to him they are business as usual with regular hours. Has anyone else noticed if their hours have been irregular?

And perhaps more importantly, do they have the best sweet potato pie?

We’ve previously judged Cafe Divan located at 1834 Wisconsin Ave., NW. I just noticed that they have had a grand opening of their Sea Room. Anyone know anything about this? I assume it will specialize in seafood but I didn’t see anything about it on their Web site. Anyone happen to try it out yet?

Columbia Heights Coffee located on 11th Street between Park and Monroe is offering a pretty good breakfast special. Though I have to admit, I’ve become pretty addicted to the egg sandwiches and tater tots over at Red Derby… Any other good breakfast specials out there?

Starting Monday, Pete’s Apizza (right outside of the Columbia Heights metro) will open at 7AM for folks to grab a cup of Illy Caffe (espresso drinks and regular coffee), as well as breakfast pastries. I’ll post more details on the menu as it becomes available. Always good to have more breakfast options!

We’ve spoken in the past about some good brunch options. But I’d like to know where are the best “regular” breakfast dining options in DC. My personal vote is for Krupins (or whatever it is called now) located on Wisconsin Ave. in Tenleytown. Damn good lox platters. Where’s your favorite regular breakfast option?

I’m not sure if this picture does it any justice but the bacon and eggs at 11 St. Deli are terrific. I asked for eggs over medium and they did it perfectly despite the fact that I broke the yoke when I opened the container upside down. But I think the coolest find from this shop is that they have southern sweet tea and free refills on them. Plus it only cost five bucks.
