The sighting was reported on the Cleveland Park Listserv Wednesday afternoon:
“Saw a huge coyote run across Woodley Road into Tregaron today about noon. It looked like a small wolf – I thought it was a deer at first. These actually mated with wolves on their way east through Canada.”
This is not the first sighting in the Cleveland Park area. Also, back in 2014 a dog was attacked by coyotes in Rock Creek Park near the Golf Course. And last August a reader thought they spotted a Coywolf in SW.

“Noticed this pious Red-tailed at the National Cathedral this past Easter Sunday.”

“I recently stayed at the Double Tree motel in Silver Spring, MD and this peregrine falcon is nesting right outside the window on the 12th floor and currently has 4 eggs. It was a treat to observe this beautiful creature up close for the 4 days that I was there. I mentioned it at the front desk–they knew about the falcon but were unaware of the eggs.”

Taken Sunday in Rock Creek Park – awesome!
Well this is a first! Thanks to J. for sending:
“Not a raptor, but… Perhaps still of interest? Ed. Note: Hell yes. Apologies for the delay in posting (this and all other tips/emails) as I was out of town last Wed.-Sun.
I saw this tortoise toddling along the center of Logan Circle on Wednesday afternoon. This guy definitely did not belong there, and I didn’t see anyone who might have potentially been its owner. I called animal control, and I hope it is in a more appropriate environment now.”

“Dear PoPville,
The last few years we have seen quite a few large yellow jacket like wasps (do we get those here?) flying around our backyard. Not enough to be a nest in our yard, but I suspect one is nearby. They used to linger along our shared fence away from our deck.
But, this afternoon while our dog was enjoying some sun on the deck, I noticed they were trying to get through the screen door. At one point there were 2 of them on the door at once, they kept flying into it to try and get through and there were a few more flying around the deck.
Wondering if anyone has suggestions for deterring them? Plants, herbs, traps, etc?”

“This Peregrine Falcon spent the Winter hunting high above Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan. Peregrines are rare and difficult to spot due to their lofty perches and incredible speed. They were largely exterminated from the East Coast decades ago due to DDT poisoning, but are finally making a comeback. A very welcome sight for bird enthusiasts, less so for local pigeons.”
